If you’ve been playing Dusty Trip lately, there’s a pretty fun new feature to try because fishing has finally arrived. Yep, we can now stop the road trip for a moment and actually go fishing.
In this post, I’ll walk you through the new fishing system, the different rods, how the fishing minigame works, what happens when you catch fish, the junk items you can pull out of the water, and the new Car Assembler.
Dusty Trip Fishing Update – New Water Pools, Fishing Rod
The biggest addition in this update is obviously fishing.
You’ll now find fishing rods that you can use around the new water areas. There are also different types of rods, so your fishing setup can improve as you progress.
The basic options shown in the update include:
- Fishing Rod
- Improved Fishing Rod
The Improved Fishing Rod is especially useful because it helps you catch fish faster.
So, if you’re planning to spend a lot of time fishing, upgrading your rod should definitely be something you keep in mind.
New Fishing Biome and Water Pools
To go fishing, you’ll need to find the new biome that contains water pools.
Once you find one of these pools, equip your fishing rod and cast it into the water.
The fishing system is fairly straightforward, but there is a small minigame you’ll need to complete before you actually get your catch.
How to Fish in Dusty Trip
Fishing starts by clicking with your fishing rod and casting it into one of the water pools.
After waiting for a little while, the fishing minigame will appear.
The minigame looks somewhat similar to the style used in Abyss. You’ll see a fish icon and a green box on the screen.
Your job is to keep the fish inside that green box.
How the Fishing Minigame Works
You need to hold your click to move the green box up and down.
The goal is simple: keep the fish icon inside the green area for as long as possible.
While you’re doing this, a progress bar will gradually fill.
Once the bar is completely filled, you’ve successfully caught whatever was attached to your fishing line.
This is probably going to take a little practice at first, especially if you’re not used to this type of fishing minigame. Once you get the timing down, though, it should become much easier.
What Can You Catch While Fishing?
You aren’t guaranteed to get a fish every time you cast your rod.
The update includes different types of fish, but there’s also a chance that you’ll pull random junk out of the water.
So don’t be surprised if you spend some time fishing and end up with something completely useless.
For example, one of the catches shown in the update was a shoe.
It makes sense for Dusty Trip, honestly. You’re fishing in random water pools, so apparently the ocean’s version of treasure is somebody’s old shoe.
How to Pull Items Toward Your Fishing Rod
When you successfully hook an item, you can click repeatedly to slowly move it closer to your fishing rod.
Keep clicking and you’ll gradually pull the item toward you.
Once it’s close enough, you can drop the item by clicking again.
This system isn’t only for fish, either. It also works with the random junk items you can pull from the water.
You’ll know you’re getting close when you start seeing the shiny particles around the item.
Can You Cast Deeper?
Yes, there’s also another casting option.
Instead of simply clicking normally, you can hold your left click to cast deeper into the water.
This gives you a deeper cast and may be useful when you’re trying to catch certain items or fish.
You can also click again after casting to shake the line.
The update suggests that shaking might help you catch fish faster, although it’s not completely clear how much of a difference it makes.
So, if you’re fishing and things feel slow, it’s worth experimenting with the deeper cast and shaking mechanic.
Can You Eat the Fish?
Yes, fish can be used as food.
Once you’ve caught one, you can cook it and then eat it.
However, there’s an important warning here: not every fish should be eaten.
Some fish can give you a poison effect when consumed.
So, before you immediately cook and eat everything you pull out of the water, make sure you know whether the particular fish you’re holding is safe.
That could turn your fishing trip into a very different kind of survival challenge.
Fishing NPC and Fish Rewards
There’s also a new NPC connected to the fishing system.
When you talk to this NPC, he’ll ask you for a random fish.
Once you catch the fish he’s looking for and hand it over, he’ll give you something in return.
This gives fishing another purpose besides simply collecting food.
If you’re already exploring the new biome, I’d recommend checking the NPC regularly. You might already have the fish he’s requesting, or you can use his requests as another reason to keep fishing.
New Car Assembler
Fishing isn’t the only thing added in this update.
The developers also introduced a new Car Assembler.
This makes assembling your vehicle much easier because you can use a left-click interaction to automatically assemble the car.
Instead of manually putting everything together piece by piece, the assembler handles the process for you.
That’s a pretty useful quality-of-life feature, especially if you’ve spent enough time in Dusty Trip manually assembling vehicles.
The Burger Truck Is the First Supported Vehicle
There is one limitation with the new Car Assembler, though.
It doesn’t appear to work with every vehicle in the game yet.
The update is starting with the Burger Truck, which is one of the vehicles shown working with the assembler.
So, if you try to use the feature on another vehicle and nothing happens, it may simply be because that vehicle isn’t supported yet.
Hopefully, more vehicles will be added to the system in future updates.
Dusty Trip Fishing Update Tips
If you’re just getting started with the new fishing system, I’d keep a few things in mind:
- Start with the basic Fishing Rod and upgrade when possible.
- Look for the new biome containing water pools.
- Hold your click to move the green box during the fishing minigame.
- Keep the fish icon inside the green box until the progress bar fills.
- Try deeper casts by holding left click.
- Experiment with shaking the line after casting.
- Don’t assume every catch will be a fish; junk items can also appear.
- Be careful when eating fish because some can cause poison.
- Check the fishing NPC to see which fish he currently wants.
- Use the Car Assembler if you’re working with a supported vehicle like the Burger Truck.
The new fishing update gives Dusty Trip something completely different to do between all the driving and survival gameplay.
I like that fishing isn’t just a simple click-and-wait system. You actually have to play a small minigame, and there’s also the possibility of pulling random junk items from the water. The deeper casting and shaking mechanics make the system a little more interesting too.
The new fishing NPC is another nice addition because it gives you a reason to keep catching different fish instead of treating them only as food.
And while the Car Assembler is currently limited to certain vehicles, having an automatic assembly option is a great quality-of-life improvement.
Overall, this looks like a pretty fun update, especially if you enjoy taking a break from driving around Dusty Trip and seeing what you can pull out of the water.
