The newest Anime Apocalypse update is here, and this one is all about two new abilities inspired by the JoJo side of the game. We have Heavenly Vampire and Moon Priest, along with a new World Boss: Heavenly Ascension, plus new titles and cosmetics to collect.
Now, I’ll be honest: I went into this expecting both abilities to be pretty similar in quality. They’re based around the same general theme, so I figured the difference would mostly come down to personal preference.
After actually testing both, though, there is a pretty clear winner for me.
Dio’s Heavenly Vampire is significantly more impressive.
Moon Priest isn’t bad at all, but Dio’s moves have better visual effects and, more importantly, they actually feel like special abilities rather than basic attacks.
So let’s go through both movesets and see exactly what you’re getting.
How to Get the New Heavenly Abilities
The update adds two new abilities:
- Heavenly Vampire – Dio
- Moon Priest – Pucci
These are tied to the new Heavenly Ascension World Boss content.
The update also introduces new titles and cosmetics, so there is more to collect beyond the abilities themselves.
If you’re mainly interested in the combat side of the update, however, the two new abilities are obviously the main attraction.
Moon Priest – Pucci Ability
Let’s start with Moon Priest.
The basic M1 attacks are fairly simple.
They work, they look fine, and there’s nothing particularly wrong with them. But compared with some of the newer ability kits being added to Anime Apocalypse, they don’t immediately stand out.
Still, the real test is the actual moves.
Moon Priest Heaven Punch
The first ability is Heaven Punch.
This is a pretty straightforward attack.
It comes out quickly and gets the job done, but there’s not a huge amount going on visually.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Sometimes a simple, fast attack is exactly what you want, especially when you’re clearing waves and don’t want to sit through a massive animation every few seconds.
But as a showcase move, Heaven Punch doesn’t exactly blow me away.
Moon Priest Gravity Pebbles
Next up is Gravity Pebbles.
This is where the Moon Priest moveset gets a little more interesting.
The ability works as an AoE attack, giving you a way to hit multiple enemies instead of focusing on just one target.
That’s immediately more useful when you’re fighting groups.
The visual effect is also decent, and after testing it a couple of times, I’d say this is one of the better standard abilities in the Moon Priest kit.
It isn’t crazy, but it gets the job done.
Moon Priest Gravitational Force
The third move is Gravitational Force.
At first glance, it can look very similar to Gravity Pebbles.
After actually testing it, though, there’s an important difference.
Gravitational Force sends a projectile straight toward the target, making it feel more like a direct attack rather than another version of the AoE ability.
Once you understand that distinction, the moveset makes a little more sense.
It’s still a fairly simple attack, but it gives Moon Priest another way to deal damage from a distance.
Moon Priest V Move
The V move is another straightforward strike.
There’s nothing particularly complicated about it.
You activate it, the attack comes out quickly, and it does what you need it to do.
That’s pretty much the theme of Moon Priest’s regular moves.
They’re functional, but they don’t have that “holy crap” factor that some other Anime Apocalypse abilities have.
Moon Priest Ultimate
The ultimate is where I was hoping Moon Priest would really step things up.
And visually, it is definitely more interesting than some of the standard attacks.
The ultimate has a much bigger presentation and gives the ability a more special feeling.
Whether you think it is a W or an L is honestly going to come down to what you expect from the character.
For me, it was cool, but it wasn’t enough to completely change my opinion of the rest of the moveset.
Is Moon Priest Good?
I’d put Moon Priest around 6.5/10 based on the testing.
It’s not bad.
The moves are usable, the AoE is helpful, and the ultimate has some nice visual presentation.
But compared with Dio’s ability, Moon Priest feels noticeably less exciting.
If you’re a Pucci fan or want to collect the new ability, it’s still worth getting.
If you’re choosing purely based on which moveset I enjoyed more, though, there’s a clear answer.
Heavenly Vampire – Dio Ability
Now we get to Heavenly Vampire.
This one immediately felt better.
Even the M1s look more interesting than Moon Priest’s basic attacks.
But once the actual skills start coming out, the difference becomes even more obvious.
Heavenly Vampire M1s
Dio’s M1s have a stronger visual feel compared with Moon Priest.
They aren’t anything absurd, but they have more personality and fit the character much better.
The basic attacks already gave me the impression that this was going to be the better moveset.
Then I tested the first ability.
Heavenly Vampire Godlike Kicks
The first move is Godlike Kicks, and this was one of my favorite abilities from the entire update.
The attack looks clean.
What really caught my attention was the time-related effect that appears when the attack connects.
It gives the ability much more personality than a normal kick animation.
And unlike some of Moon Priest’s attacks, this one immediately feels satisfying to use.
I ended up going back and using it several times just because I liked the effect.
That’s usually a good sign.
Heavenly Vampire Heaven Calls
The second move is Heaven Calls.
This one is even better.
The visual effects are significantly stronger, and the ability feels much more impactful when it lands.
This was the point where I was pretty much convinced that Dio’s moveset was going to beat Pucci’s.
It’s flashy without becoming completely ridiculous, and the attack actually feels like something you’d expect from a major character.
Heavenly Vampire Third Ability
The third ability continues the same quality.
Again, the visual effects are really good, and the attack has much more presence than the standard Moon Priest moves.
It also helps that the abilities don’t all feel like copies of each other.
Each attack has its own presentation and purpose, which makes the overall kit more enjoyable to use.
Heavenly Vampire V Move
The V move is extremely fast.
Like, almost instant.
You activate it and the attack happens immediately.
That can be very useful during wave clearing because you aren’t waiting around for a long animation before you can move on to the next enemy.
It’s not the flashiest ability in the kit, but it gets the job done.
And sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
Heavenly Vampire Ultimate
Then we get to the ultimate.
Yeah.
This is where Dio’s moveset really cooks.
The ultimate has a much stronger visual presentation than the regular abilities, and it feels like an actual ultimate rather than simply a slightly larger version of another skill.
This was easily one of my favorite parts of testing Heavenly Vampire.
If you’re someone who cares about flashy abilities and satisfying animations, this is the part that will probably sell you on the ability.
Is Heavenly Vampire Better Than Moon Priest?
For me, absolutely.
I’d rate Heavenly Vampire around 7.5–8/10.
Moon Priest is around 6.5/10.
That’s not because Moon Priest is unusable.
It’s because Dio’s ability simply does a better job of making every attack feel special.
The M1s are better.
The standard abilities are more interesting.
The effects are cleaner.
And the ultimate is much more satisfying.
Heavenly Vampire vs Moon Priest
| Category | Moon Priest | Heavenly Vampire |
|---|---|---|
| M1s | Decent | Better |
| Basic attacks | Simple | More impactful |
| AoE | Good | Good |
| V move | Straightforward | Very fast |
| Visual effects | Decent | Excellent |
| Ultimate | Good | Excellent |
| Overall rating | 6.5/10 | 7.5–8/10 |
So if you’re deciding which one to prioritize, I’d personally go for Heavenly Vampire first.
World Boss: Heavenly Ascension
The update also adds a new Heavenly Ascension World Boss.
This is the main piece of new content surrounding the two abilities.
If you’re trying to collect everything from the update, you’ll want to spend some time working through this new World Boss content.
The update isn’t just giving you two abilities and calling it a day.
There are also new titles and cosmetics attached to the content, giving players additional reasons to farm it.
Which Ability Should You Get First?
If you only have enough resources to focus on one, I’d prioritize Heavenly Vampire.
There’s nothing wrong with Moon Priest, but Dio’s kit is simply more enjoyable to use.
The biggest difference is the feeling of the attacks.
Moon Priest feels like a functional moveset.
Heavenly Vampire feels like a showcase moveset.
The time-themed effects on Godlike Kicks, the presentation of Heaven Calls, the quick V move, and the ultimate all make the ability much more memorable.
The new Anime Apocalypse update is definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in the JoJo-inspired content.
Moon Priest is decent, and I would give it around 6.5/10. Its attacks are straightforward, Gravity Pebbles gives you useful AoE, and the ultimate is reasonably cool.
But Heavenly Vampire is the clear winner.
Dio’s ability gets around 7.5–8/10 from me, and I genuinely liked using it.
The M1s are better, Godlike Kicks looks clean, Heaven Calls has some great effects, the V move is extremely fast, and the ultimate is easily the highlight of the kit.
So if you’re farming the new Heavenly Ascension content and you’re wondering which ability deserves your attention first, I’d go with Heavenly Vampire.
And if you’re a JoJo fan, both are worth collecting anyway. The real question is just which one you’re going to make your main.
