Pets in AION 2 serve more than just companionship; they significantly boost character stats and provide unique effects that impact gameplay. Hunting monsters for their Souls or securing them through various game systems is essential to progress your pet collection and your character.
The variety and abundance of pets across Atreia means knowing where to find them saves time and resources, especially as some are rare or tied to special activities. Many players find it tricky to track down all Souls or overlook special acquisition methods, which can delay unlocking powerful benefits.
Before diving into pet hunting, prepare by checking available Reward Chests, visiting Black Cloud Merchants for rotating inventories, and focusing first on easier combat-drop pets to build your collection quickly.
There are 200 pets divided into five groups: Special, Cogni, Fera, Natura, and Varian. Some can be obtained from monsters, while others require Reward Chests, Black Cloud Merchants, special shops, passes, or other late-game content.

How to Acquire Pets in AION 2 The simplest way to begin your pet collection is by defeating monsters in Atreia. Monsters drop their Soul upon defeat; collecting five Souls of the same monster automatically registers that creature as your pet. Identify the monster you want as a pet. Defeat it and pick up its Soul. Gather 5 Souls from the same monster to register it. Not all pets come from combat drops. Some pets appear in Mysterios, Growth, and specialized Reward Chests. Others can be purchased from Black Cloud Merchants or earned through Pet Soul Chests, requiring you to explore multiple avenues for a full collection.
One of the easiest ways to start collecting pets is by hunting monsters throughout Atreia. Certain monsters can drop their own Souls when defeated, allowing you to gradually register that creature as a pet. The basic process works like this:
- Find and defeat the monster you want.
- Collect its Soul after the monster is defeated.
- Collect 5 Souls from the same monster.
- Once you have enough Souls, the pet is automatically registered in your collection.
Not every pet can be obtained through combat. Non-Special pets can also appear in Mysterios, Growth, and type-specific Reward Chests. Some can also be purchased through rotating Black Cloud Merchant shops or obtained from Pet Soul Chests.
Pet Progression and Upgrades Explained All pets start at Level 1 with basic stats. Improving a pet’s Genus Insight involves gathering additional Souls beyond the initial five. 5 Souls to register the pet (Level 1). 25 more Souls to boost the pet to Level 2. Collect 75 additional Souls to reach the maximum Insight Level. Maximum Genus Insight is capped at Level 10. At Level 3, pets unlock the Transformation ability. Gathering more pets also raises your overall Insight Level. This unlocks Owned Effects that passively enhance your character’s performance.
Every newly acquired pet starts at Level 1. You can improve its Genus Insight by collecting more Souls from the same pet.
The progression works as follows:
- 5 Souls are needed to register the pet.
- 25 additional Souls are needed to reach Level 2.
- Another 75 Souls can be collected to reach the maximum Genus Insight level.
- Genus Insight is capped at Level 10.
- The Transformation ability becomes available at Level 3.
Collecting more pets also benefits your entire character. Your overall Insight Level increases as your collection grows, while Owned Effects provide additional passive stats.

Which Pets Should You Collect First?
Recommended Pets to Collect Early
No single pet outshines the collection system, since every pet contributes to your Insight Level and passive bonuses. Early focus should be on combat-drop pets that are easier to get during your general gameplay.
Keep an eye on Reward Chests and Black Cloud Merchant stocks, as they regularly provide pets unavailable in combat. Building a wide variety is the smartest way to steadily boost your character stats.
Remember, pet collecting in AION 2 isn’t just cosmetic—it directly enhances your character’s power and progression.
For beginners, combat-drop pets are usually the easiest place to start. Simply explore, defeat monsters, and collect their Souls while progressing through the game.
You should also check Reward Chests and Black Cloud Merchant inventories regularly. These sources contain pets that cannot always be obtained directly from combat, making them important for players trying to complete their collection.
The biggest reason to collect pets is their contribution to character progression. Pets provide passive stat benefits, while increasing your collection can improve your overall Insight Level. This means pet collecting is not simply a cosmetic activity. Even if you are not interested in collecting every creature, unlocking more pets can still provide useful benefits for your character.
