Altars are one of the most important things to find in Broken Blade, especially if you’re trying to unlock everything the game currently has to offer. While exploring each island naturally will help you discover some of them, several altars are tucked away in less obvious spots that can be easy to miss if you don’t know where to look.
At the moment, there are 20 altars spread across the game’s different islands. The good news is that once you know where to look, collecting them becomes much easier. This guide will walk you through every altar location currently available in the game and help you avoid wasting time searching every corner of the map.
Spawn Area and Starter Islands (5 Altars)
Your altar hunt begins right where you first enter the game.
The starting area contains three altars that are very easy to spot. Since most players spend their first few minutes exploring around spawn, you’ll likely find these without much trouble. Take a careful look around the central area before moving on to the next island.
After leaving the spawn island, you’ll find two additional altars on the next beginner island. These are generally placed along the main exploration routes, making them difficult to miss if you’re thoroughly checking the area.
By the time you finish exploring the first two islands, you should have collected a total of five altars.
Muspelheim (Lava Island) Altar Locations
The next set of altars can be found on Muspelheim, the volcanic region filled with lava and rocky terrain.
This island contains five altars in total. Unlike the starter islands, you’ll need to do a bit more climbing and exploration here.
The first two altars are located in relatively accessible areas around the island’s main paths. As you continue exploring, you’ll eventually come across another altar hidden within the volcano itself. Many players overlook this location because they’re focused on navigating the dangerous terrain rather than searching inside the volcanic structure.
The fourth altar can be found in another elevated section of the island, while the fifth and final altar is located farther away from the central area. Make sure you explore the outer edges of Muspelheim and not just the main pathways.
Once you’ve finished here, your altar count should reach ten.
Niflheim (Ice Island) Altar Locations
After Muspelheim, it’s time to head to Niflheim, the icy region of the game.
Niflheim also contains five altars, but they’re spread out more than the previous island. Because of this, many players accidentally miss one or two during their first visit.
The first altar can be found near one side of the island, while the second is located further inland. The third altar is particularly easy to overlook because it sits behind part of the island rather than along a commonly traveled route.
Continue exploring and you’ll eventually discover the fourth altar near the river section. While searching this area, you may also come across a bunny NPC or creature that serves as a useful landmark.
The fifth and final altar is positioned elsewhere on the island and completes Niflheim’s collection.
After collecting all five, you’ll have reached fifteen total altars.
Jotunheim Altar Locations
The final currently available altars are located in Jotunheim.
This area contains the last five altars needed to complete the current altar collection.
The first altar is positioned on higher ground, requiring some climbing to reach. The second altar can be found lower down in another section of the island. From there, you’ll need to continue exploring upward through the map’s larger structures and elevated pathways.
The third altar sits farther into the region, rewarding players who fully explore the area rather than sticking to the obvious routes. The fourth altar can be found nearby, while the fifth and final altar is located in another distant section of Jotunheim.
Since this island features more vertical terrain than some of the previous areas, don’t forget to look both above and below you while searching.
Tips for Finding Altars Faster
If you’re having trouble locating an altar, a few simple strategies can save you a lot of time:
- Explore the edges of every island instead of only following the main paths.
- Check elevated areas, cliffs, and structures whenever possible.
- Look behind large landmarks and terrain features.
- Search inside special locations such as volcanoes or caves.
- Keep track of how many altars you’ve already found on each island before moving on.
A lot of players assume they’ve collected everything after following the main road through an area, but several altars are intentionally placed in spots that reward exploration.
There are currently 20 altars available in Broken Blade, divided evenly across the game’s major islands. You’ll find five in the starter regions, five in Muspelheim, five in Niflheim, and five in Jotunheim.
If you’re trying to complete your collection, it’s worth revisiting each island and carefully checking every corner. Some altars are very obvious, while others are hidden just far enough away from the main routes to be missed during normal gameplay.
Since Broken Blade is still receiving updates, there’s a good chance additional islands and altar locations will be added in future patches. For now, collecting all 20 altars will ensure you’re fully caught up with the current content.
