If you’re just jumping into Sorcerer Ascent, it can feel confusing at first. The game looks like a simple bandit-beater on the surface, but it’s actually built around story progression, long-term upgrades, and a lot of hidden systems that the game never properly explains.

This guide is focused entirely on beginners, especially players who want to level quickly, unlock their cursed techniques without wasting time, and understand what actually matters early on.

Sorcerer Ascent Beginner Guide – Level Fast, Skill Scrolls

Before you even enter the world, the most important step happens in the menu. Rolling for your innate cursed technique should always come first. This determines how you fight, what skills you’ll unlock later, and how your entire build feels. Clans also matter, since they come with passive buffs, but cursed techniques will impact your gameplay far more in the early hours.

Once you’re happy with your rolls, choose RPG mode and complete the tutorial. It’s mostly self-explanatory, and nothing there is worth overthinking. The real game starts once you spawn into the main world.

Fastest Way to Level Up Early

Sorcerer Ascent is not designed around grinding random enemies. The fastest and most reliable way to level is by following the main story quests. These quests unlock almost everything that matters, including your cursed technique, cursed energy coating, and sorcerer grade promotion.

If you try to roam around farming mobs too early, progression feels slow and punishing. The game clearly wants you to push the main storyline first. Stick to it until you’re promoted to an official sorcerer grade and receive your uniform. The uniform itself gives small buffs, but more importantly, it marks the point where the game opens up.

Unlocking Your Cursed Technique and Energy Coating

One of the most important early missions is the cursed energy training quest. Completing this mini-game permanently unlocks two core systems: cursed energy coating and your cursed technique abilities.

Once unlocked, cursed techniques can be accessed by pressing M, then navigating to the techniques tab. Each technique has mastery levels and stat requirements. Some abilities may appear locked even after unlocking the technique itself, which usually means you need more strength, cursed energy, or mastery progression.

Cursed energy coating is activated by pressing C. This enhances your combat and becomes essential as enemies get tougher. You can even customize the color of your coating through the customization menu, which doesn’t affect gameplay but is a nice visual touch.

Stats and Fixing Mistakes

Stat allocation matters, but mistakes aren’t permanent. You’ll allocate points through the stats menu, and different techniques demand different builds. Strength requirements are common early on, especially for melee-focused techniques.

If you mess up, attribute reset elixirs exist and can be obtained from lucky boxes. This makes experimenting much safer, so don’t feel locked into your first choices.

Skill Scrolls and Extra Abilities

Beyond your cursed technique, the game includes skill scrolls, which grant additional abilities. These are often earned through progression, secret quests, or boss drops. Some early quests even reward a free skill scroll if you fully complete optional puzzles.

Once unlocked, skill scroll abilities appear in your techniques tab and can be equipped if you meet the stat requirements. These skills add variety to combat and can dramatically improve how fights flow, especially when combined with your cursed technique.

Lucky Boxes and Why They Matter

Lucky boxes are one of the most valuable rewards in the game. They can contain potential stones, energy shards, attribute reset elixirs, soul points for rerolling, XP boosts, and even developer products depending on the box tier.

Higher-quality lucky boxes offer significantly better rewards, so claiming them whenever possible is important. One overlooked source of lucky boxes is the Curse Index, which tracks your progress and periodically rewards you for milestones. Checking it regularly adds up over time.

Weapons, Enhancements, and Potential Rolls

Weapons and gear drop from bosses and mobs, and they’re far more than just damage upgrades. At the blacksmith, you can enhance items using runes to add bonuses. Different runes provide different effects, allowing you to tailor gear to your build.

Potential stones let you reroll item buffs, which is extremely powerful later on. This system lets average gear become surprisingly strong if you get lucky with rolls.

Teleportation, Dungeons, and Exploration

Teleportation scrolls can be purchased to instantly travel between villages. While expensive early on, they save massive amounts of time later. Dungeons are scattered across the map and require dungeon keys, which drop from mobs in the surrounding area.

There are also secret puzzles, hidden progression paths, and technique expansions that unlock new abilities. Almost every cursed technique has an expanded form, and discovering these systems naturally through exploration is part of the game’s appeal.

Combat Tips for Easier Fights

One simple trick makes early combat much easier. Instead of running at enemies and spamming basic attacks, use a dash into a slide, then launch an air combo. This briefly stuns enemies and gives you a free opening for damage. It’s safer, faster, and avoids clashing mechanics that can slow fights down.

This combo alone makes grinding mobs far more efficient and keeps fights from dragging on longer than necessary.
