MONOCHROME starts with a simple objective: escape the building. Unfortunately, getting out is not as easy as finding a door and running for it. The elevator is locked behind multiple security systems, the corridors below are packed with identical rooms, and a monster is roaming around while you search.

To escape, you need to find four keys, unlock all four mechanical locks beside the elevator, discover a four-digit keypad code, and then activate the elevator. The layout can feel confusing during your first few runs, especially because the keys are hidden inside drawers throughout the maze.

This walkthrough explains exactly what you need to do, from opening the first boarded doorway to reaching the elevator and finishing the game.

MONOCHROME Walkthrough – How to Escape With Four Keys

The complete escape process looks like this:

  1. Open the boarded DO NOT ENTER doorway.
  2. Go downstairs into the corridor maze.
  3. Search drawers and dressers for four keys.
  4. Find the four-digit number hidden somewhere in the maze.
  5. Return each key to the elevator lock panel.
  6. Enter the correct four-digit code.
  7. Make sure all four indicators are green.
  8. Open the elevator and escape.

The biggest challenge is surviving long enough to complete all of these steps.

How to Leave the Starting Room

When you begin the game, take a moment to look around the main room. You will see the elevator, a keypad, and a lock panel with four indicators beside it.

This is the place you will keep returning to throughout the run.

The way forward is through the doorway marked DO NOT ENTER. The entrance is blocked with wooden planks, so walk close to it and wait for the interaction prompt.

Hold E to pry the boards away.

Once the doorway is open, head down the stairs. This takes you into the main corridor area where you will find the keys and keypad number.

How to Find All Four Keys

The four keys are hidden inside drawers and dressers throughout the basement corridors.

Walk up to furniture and press E to open the drawers. If the drawer contains a key, you should see a prompt allowing you to take it.

The important thing to remember is that the keys are not simply lying around on the floor. You need to actively search furniture.

Because many of the rooms look nearly identical, it is very easy to lose track of where you have already searched. A good trick is to leave drawers open after checking them.

That way, an open drawer acts like a marker showing that you have already cleared that area.

Best Way to Search

Instead of randomly running through the maze, try clearing one section at a time.

  • Enter a room.
  • Check every dresser and drawer.
  • Leave searched drawers open.
  • Move into the next nearby room.
  • Avoid returning to areas you have already cleared.

If you find a key, it is usually safer to take it back upstairs and insert it immediately instead of carrying it around for a long time.

Dying while holding a key can waste a lot of time.

Where to Put the Keys

After finding a key, return to the elevator lobby upstairs.

Beside the elevator is a lock panel containing four separate indicators. Insert each key into the panel.

Every successfully inserted key turns one of the indicators green.

You need all four indicators to be green before the mechanical side of the elevator can be unlocked.

Don’t assume that entering the keypad code alone will open the elevator. Both systems must be completed.

How to Find the Four-Digit Keypad Code

While exploring the maze, keep an eye out for a block with a piece of paper or slip showing four digits.

That number is the code for the elevator keypad.

The code may not always be the same between runs, so you should always find and read the number during your own game instead of relying on a code from another player.

Once you find the number, remember it and return upstairs to the keypad beside the elevator.

Enter all four digits carefully.

If the code is accepted, the electronic lock is cleared. However, the elevator still will not open until you have also inserted all four keys.

How to Survive the Monster

The monster is probably the biggest problem while searching for keys.

It patrols the basement corridors, and getting too close to it results in a jumpscare and sends you back upstairs.

Fortunately, MONOCHROME gives you a way to hide.

Use Wardrobes

Wooden wardrobes and closets are scattered throughout the corridors.

When the monster is nearby, walk up to a wardrobe and press E to hide inside.

Stay there until the monster has moved away.

It may sometimes stop near the wardrobe, so don’t immediately leave just because you no longer hear footsteps. Give it a few extra seconds before continuing.

Important Survival Tips

  • Listen carefully for footsteps.
  • Stop searching drawers when the monster gets close.
  • Remember where nearby wardrobes are located.
  • Don’t run blindly down long hallways.
  • Avoid getting stuck in furniture interactions when danger is nearby.

Most deaths happen because players continue opening drawers instead of reacting when they hear the monster approaching.

Best Strategy for a Faster Escape

A clean run is more about being organized than rushing through the maze.

The best strategy is:

Search a section → Find a key → Return upstairs → Insert the key → Go back down → Repeat

You can also try to find the keypad number early. Since you will already be exploring the corridors for keys, grabbing the code during the search saves you from making another trip later.

If you find keys in nearby rooms, search the surrounding area carefully before leaving. Multiple useful items can sometimes appear close together.

Leaving drawers open is also one of the easiest ways to avoid wasting time searching the same furniture twice.

How to Open the Elevator

Once you have found all four keys and entered the keypad code, return to the elevator.

Before trying to open it, check the lock panel.

You should have:

  • Four green indicators
  • The correct keypad code entered

If everything is complete, the Open Elevator interaction should become available.

Press the prompt and enter the elevator.

Once the doors close, the game reaches its ending sequence.

Why Won’t the Elevator Open?

If the elevator is still locked, check these things.

You Are Missing a Key

Look at the lock panel. If one of the indicators is not green, you still need another key.

Go back downstairs and continue searching drawers.

You Entered the Wrong Code

The keypad code must match the four digits displayed somewhere in the maze.

If the keypad does not accept your entry, return to the number block and double-check the digits.

You Haven’t Completed Both Locks

The keypad and keys are two separate requirements.

You need:

  • All four keys inserted
  • The correct four-digit code entered

Completing only one of them is not enough.

The Interaction Prompt Isn’t Appearing

Try standing closer to the elevator panel or doors. Some interactions require you to be positioned correctly before the prompt appears.

Does MONOCHROME Have Codes?

No, MONOCHROME does not currently have a traditional Roblox promo code system.

There is no code redemption menu where you can enter codes for free rewards.

The only important number in the game is the four-digit elevator keypad code, which you need to discover during your run.

Because the number can vary, always check the block inside the maze rather than copying a code from an old guide.

MONOCHROME Roblox Walkthrough Summary

Escaping MONOCHROME is straightforward once you understand the objective.

Open the boarded doorway and enter the basement. Search every dresser and drawer for the four keys while leaving opened drawers behind to keep track of the rooms you have already checked. Watch out for the monster and use wardrobes whenever you need a safe place to hide.

While searching, find the four-digit number hidden somewhere in the maze. Return each key to the elevator lock panel, enter the correct number into the keypad, and make sure all four indicators are green.

After that, the elevator can finally be opened.

The corridors may look confusing at first, but patience and a methodical search make the run much easier. Don’t rush into unexplored hallways, keep track of nearby hiding spots, and take your keys back to the elevator whenever possible. Once you get into that rhythm, escaping MONOCHROME becomes much more manageable.
