If you’re looking for the new Scavenger Rod in Fisch, the good news is that you don’t have to complete some huge questline. The rod is locked behind a short three-part quest, and once you know where to go and what to fish for, you can get through it pretty quickly.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the entire Scavenger Rod quest, including the best fishing setups for each requirement and the rod’s stats once you’ve unlocked it.

Start the Scavenger Rod Quest

First, make your way to the oil rig near Rosecliff.

You need to reach the top of the oil rig and enter the building there. Once you’re inside, turn right and look for the NPC.

This NPC doesn’t have an obvious quest marker, so he’s pretty easy to miss.

Talk to him and he’ll give you a three-part quest. You’ll need to complete all three requirements before he gives you the Scavenger Rod.

Get 2 Silver Rusty Bolts

The first requirement is to obtain 2 Silver Rusty Bolts.

For this one, the recommended setup is:

  • Rod: Titanium Rod
  • Bait: Garbage Bait
  • Location: Mineshaft
  • Extra: Mutated Sharky equipped

The Mutated Sharky can help with the mutation requirement for this item.

If you don’t want to fish specifically for the bolts, there’s also another option: you can try appraising for them while a Mutation Totem is active.

So, if you already have access to appraisal and a Mutation Totem, this can potentially save you some fishing time.

Once you’ve obtained both Silver Rusty Bolts, move on to the next requirement.

Catch 5 Scrap Metal

Next, you’ll need to catch and return 5 Scrap Metal.

Thankfully, this one is much easier because you don’t need a particular mutation.

The setup used in the video was:

  • Rod: Any suitable rod
  • Bait: Garbage Bait
  • Location: The Depths
  • Time: Daytime

The Soul Reaper was used for this requirement, but you can use other strong rods as well.

The main things you need to remember are the Garbage Bait, Depths, and daytime conditions.

You can also use other high-end rods such as God Breaker or similar powerful options if you don’t have Soul Reaper.

Just keep fishing until you’ve collected all five Scrap Metal.

Obtain 1 Lunar String

The final part of the quest requires 1 Lunar String.

For this one, you’ll want to use:

  • Rod: Moonlit Rod
  • Location: Desolate Deep
  • Extra: Mutated Sharky equipped

Once again, there’s an alternative if you don’t want to rely entirely on fishing.

You can try to appraise for the Lunar String while a Mutation Totem is active.

If you’re already using the Mutated Sharky setup, though, you can simply fish in the Desolate Deep until you get the required item.

Return to the NPC

Once you’ve completed all three requirements, head back to the NPC at the oil rig.

Talk to him again and turn in the quest.

That’s all you need to do.

The NPC will reward you with the Scavenger Rod.

So the complete quest is essentially:

  1. Get 2 Silver Rusty Bolts.
  2. Catch 5 Scrap Metal.
  3. Obtain 1 Lunar String.
  4. Return to the NPC.
  5. Claim the Scavenger Rod.

Scavenger Rod Stats

After unlocking the rod, here’s what you can expect from its base stats:

  • Lure Speed: 75%
  • Luck: 100%
  • Control: 0.1
  • Resilience: 20%
  • Max Kg: 75,000

The rod also has a pretty distinct blue appearance, which gives it a nice look compared with some of the more basic rods.

Its passive is called Scavenger Hunt, which is particularly interesting because it appears to be connected to the rod’s unique mutation.

Scavenger Rod Mutation

While testing the rod, the Scavenge mutation appeared.

This is the rod’s own unique mutation, which makes the Scavenger Rod more interesting than its stats might initially suggest.

It’s also possible that the Scavenge mutation could become useful for a future quest or requirement, so I’d recommend keeping an eye out for it rather than immediately ignoring it.

During testing, the rod also seemed to produce quite a few Glassy catches, although it’s not clear from the test whether that’s an intentional part of the rod’s passive or simply a result of the catches available in that area.

Best Way to Complete the Quest Quickly

If you’re trying to finish the quest as efficiently as possible, prepare your equipment before you start.

For the Silver Rusty Bolts, bring your Titanium Rod, Garbage Bait, and Mutated Sharky.

For the Scrap Metal, switch to a strong rod and continue using Garbage Bait in the Depths during the daytime.

For the Lunar String, take your Moonlit Rod and Mutated Sharky to the Desolate Deep.

If you have a Mutation Totem and access to appraisal, you can also use that as an alternative for the mutation-related items.

This saves you from spending unnecessary time fishing if you already have the right appraisal setup available.

Scavenger Rod Quest Checklist

Here’s the quick version you can keep open while you’re playing:

Requirement Location Recommended Setup
2× Silver Rusty Bolt Mineshaft Titanium Rod + Garbage Bait + Mutated Sharky
5× Scrap Metal Depths Strong Rod + Garbage Bait + Daytime
1× Lunar String Desolate Deep Moonlit Rod + Mutated Sharky
Final Step Oil Rig near Rosecliff Return to the quest NPC

The Scavenger Rod is a relatively straightforward rod to unlock once you know exactly where the quest NPC is and what each part requires.

The most annoying requirements are probably the Silver Rusty Bolts and Lunar String, especially if you don’t already have the right mutation setup. If you have a Mutation Totem available, appraisal can give you another way to approach those requirements.

Once you hand everything over, you’ll receive the Scavenger Rod and can start testing its Scavenger Hunt ability for yourself.

And don’t overlook the Scavenge mutation. The fact that the rod has its own mutation could make it more useful than its basic 100% Luck stat suggests, especially if future quests end up requiring it.
