The Skycrest update has added a massive amount of new content to Fisch, including Ancient Idols, Idol Favor, Sky Crystals, new weather events, relics, and several powerful fishing rods. One of the biggest rewards from this update is the new Abaia’s Spite Rod, which requires you to complete a long quest involving the legendary Abaia hunt.
In this post, I’ll show you how to get Abaia’s Spite Rod in Fisch, including how to unlock the Abaia encounter, collect and place the Sky Crystals, remove Abaia’s barriers, get the required Squalled Abaia, and prepare the final Petrified Imperion Relic needed for crafting.
The process takes a while, especially because Abaia has to be tracked and caught multiple times. I’ll go through everything step by step so you know exactly what you need to do.
Start the Skycrest Questline
The first thing you need to do is travel to the new Skycrest area through FischFest. Once you arrive, I recommend setting your spawn or Mystical Mirror there because you will be spending a lot of time in this location.
When you first enter Skycrest, speak with the NPC near the entrance. You will receive the Crest Amulet, which is an important item for the Skycrest progression system.
The NPC will then ask you to seek out an Ancient Idol and prove yourself by catching fish in Skycrest.
I started by catching 10 fish in Skycrest, which helped me complete the first part of the progression. There are also many NPCs around the island offering different quests, so it can feel a little overwhelming at first. I personally accepted the available quests and used the navigation feature whenever possible because it makes finding objectives much easier.
Increase Your Idol Favor
Skycrest has its own progression system called Idol Favor.
As you progress through the Ancient Idol quests and complete tasks for NPCs around the island, you earn Idol Favor. This is important because certain parts of the Sky Crystal and Abaia questline require a higher Idol Favor level.
One of the important requirements later in the quest is reaching:
- Idol Favor Level 50
- Obtaining all the required Sky Crystals
- Placing the crystals around the sealed gate
So while you are working through Skycrest, I recommend completing Idol quests whenever possible instead of ignoring them.
I also completed quests by speaking with NPCs such as Elder Kao and giving them the fish or items they requested. Some quests also have cooldowns, so you may need to return later before continuing.
Complete Skyrest Quests and Unlock Progression
While exploring Skycrest, you will find several different NPCs and Ancient Idols.
Some of these quests reward you with useful items such as:
- Crest-related progression
- Idol Favor
- Relics
- Access to additional Skycrest features
I also completed quests involving fireflies and the new weather events. Certain creatures and objectives only become available during the new weather conditions, so pay attention to the weather requirements.
The navigation feature is especially useful here. With so many NPCs and objectives around Skycrest, manually searching for everything can take a long time.
After completing enough progression, your Crest Amulet can eventually be used outside of Skycrest, which is useful for the rest of your gameplay as well.
Collect All 10 Sky Crystals
The next major part of getting Abaia’s Spite Rod is completing the Keeper of the Sky questline.
You need to collect 10 scattered Sky Crystals from different locations around the world.
Some crystals are easy to obtain, while others require completing a quest, exchanging a fish, paying money, or fishing for the crystal.
Here are some of the locations and methods I used.
Moosewood Lighthouse Crystal
One of the Sky Crystals can be found at the Moosewood Lighthouse.
This was one of the easier crystals to locate, so make sure you check the lighthouse while collecting the others.
Roslit Bay Crystal
For the Roslit Bay crystal, I spoke with the NPC about the strange crystal.
The NPC wanted an exchange, requiring me to obtain an Albino-mutated Skycrest fish.
Once I had the required fish, I gave it to the NPC and received the Sky Crystal.
Forsaken Shores Crystal
Another crystal can be found inside the skull area at Forsaken Shores.
When I spoke with the NPC about the strange crystal, I was able to purchase it for:
- $500,000
So make sure you have enough money saved before working through this part of the quest.
Snowcap Crystal
The next crystal is located at Snowcap.
The NPC may give you the crystal directly depending on your progression. However, if they do not, you may need to go down into the nearby cave and complete the related quest.
The area is also connected to the Lost Rod quest.
Castaway Cliffs Crystal
Another Sky Crystal is located at Castaway Cliffs.
I found this one on a boat, so check the boats around the area carefully.
This was a relatively simple crystal to collect compared to some of the others.
Ancient Isle Crystal
For the Ancient Isle crystal, I spoke with the Meteorologist about the strange crystal.
After progressing through the dialogue and completing the required interaction, I was able to obtain it.
Heaven’s Rod Room Crystal
Another crystal can be found around the Heaven’s Rod room.
I located the room and found the crystal inside. If you are exploring the area, make sure you check the rooms carefully because some of these crystals can be easy to miss.
Terrapin Island Crystal
The Terrapin Island crystal requires fishing.
You need to fish in the required location until you get the crystal. Based on my experience, it appeared to have around a 10% chance.
I kept fishing until it finally appeared.
It can take a few attempts, so don’t worry if you don’t get it immediately.
Skoria Reach Crystal
The final crystal I collected was at Skoria Reach.
Make sure you have the appropriate protective equipment before entering dangerous areas. Once I reached the correct location, I found the crystal and was able to collect it.
After collecting everything, I had all 10 Sky Crystals needed for the next stage.
Place the Sky Crystals Around the Gate
Once you have collected all the Sky Crystals, return to the sealed gate connected to the Keeper of the Sky questline.
You need to place every crystal in its correct position around the gate.
After placing all the crystals, speak with the quest NPC again.
This progresses the story and reveals the next objective involving the Fire of Spirits and the legendary creature Abaia.
Keep in mind that you also need sufficient Idol Favor progression for certain stages of this questline.
Feed the Fire of Spirits
The next objective involves feeding the Fire of Spirits.
You need to sacrifice caught fish to the flame. Feeding the fire helps progress the quest and is connected to spawning the conditions needed for the Abaia encounter.
At first, I expected the weather to appear immediately after feeding the flame, but it did not happen right away.
You may need to continue sacrificing fish and progressing the objective.
Eventually, the required weather event can appear:
- Tropical Squall
- Raging Squall
These weather events are extremely important because they are connected to the Abaia hunt.
Summon and Track Abaia
Once the correct conditions appear, you can begin the Abaia hunt.
Abaia moves through different underground and outer water locations. You cannot simply catch it once and immediately finish the quest.
Instead, you need to track it down and remove its protective barriers.
The quest objective showed that I needed to remove:
- 4 protection barriers
This means you have to catch Abaia multiple times as it moves between different pools and locations.
Each successful encounter progresses the barrier objective.
Catch Abaia Four Times to Remove Its Barriers
This was probably the most annoying part of the entire process.
After you hook Abaia, catching it does not immediately give you the final fish. Instead, Abaia escapes and moves to another location.
You need to follow it and catch it again.
The progression works through multiple stages until you reach:
- 1/4 barriers removed
- 2/4 barriers removed
- 3/4 barriers removed
- 4/4 barriers removed
Abaia can move to different pools, so I had to keep searching for it after each encounter.
The good news is that the actual reeling process was not extremely difficult. The harder part was keeping track of where Abaia had moved and making sure it did not retreat.
Once all four barriers are removed, you can finally complete the main Abaia encounter.
Get the Squalled Abaia
For crafting Abaia’s Spite Rod, simply catching Abaia is not enough.
You need an Abaia with the Squalled mutation.
This means you need to encounter and catch Abaia while the appropriate Squall weather is active.
I had to go through the entire barrier process again because each new Abaia encounter requires you to work through the layers.
So yes, if you are trying to get the correct mutated version, be prepared to catch and track Abaia multiple times again.
I found this part especially frustrating because the weather can be limited, and you need enough time to complete the entire encounter before it ends.
Eventually, I managed to catch the correct Squalled Abaia.
Make sure you check the mutation carefully before moving on because you specifically need the Squalled version for the rod crafting requirement.
Get a Petrified Imperion Relic
The final important crafting ingredient is a:
Petrified Imperion Relic
I already had an Imperion Relic from one of the Skycrest quests.
To get the required Petrified version, I used a Mutation Totem on the relic and waited for the correct mutation.
Fortunately, I got the Petrified mutation fairly quickly.
Once you have both the required mutated Abaia and the Petrified Imperion Relic, you should be ready to craft the rod.
Craft Abaia’s Spite Rod
After collecting the required materials, go to the crafting location and craft Abaia’s Spite Rod.
Once I completed the craft, I finally received the new rod.
Here are the stats shown for Abaia’s Spite Rod:
- Lure Speed: 110%
- Luck: 180%
- Control: 0.35
- Resilience: 80%
- Max Weight: Extremely high capacity
The rod also comes with a unique passive connected to Abaia itself.
Abaia’s Spite Rod Passive Explained
The most interesting thing about Abaia’s Spite Rod is its passive ability.
Abaia hunts alongside you while fishing and can interact with the fish you hook.
The creature can hoard fish, storing them for later.
From my testing, Abaia can hoard up to:
5 fish
Once the hoard is full, the rod can result in an incredibly fast sequence of catches.
Basically, you can end up catching around six fish in a row, including the fish you are currently catching and the fish Abaia has stored.
When the passive activates, the catches happen extremely quickly.
The hoarded fish also receive the rod’s special Abaia’s Spite mutation, making the passive even more interesting for players collecting mutations.
