If you’re rolling traits in Grand Blue and wondering which ones are actually worth keeping, this should save you from wasting rerolls on something you’ll replace five minutes later.

There are quite a few traits in the game, and they’re not all useful for the same reason. Some are mainly there to make exploration easier, some are great for grinding, and then you’ve got the traits that can completely change how you approach a fight.

For this tier list, I’m ranking the traits from D Tier all the way up to Mythic, based on how useful their effects are for progression and combat. Obviously, there’s some room for personal preference here—especially with the more situational traits—but a few of these are very easy to recommend.

Grand Blue Trait Tier List – Best Trait, Effects

Here’s the overall ranking at a glance:

Tier Traits
Mythic Maniac, Copycat, Gaudy, Pyro Maniac
S Tier —
A Tier Glass Cannon, Assassin, Prodigy, Second Wind, Chameleon, Sturdy Guard, Arrogant, Gourmand, Adrenaline
B Tier Marathoner, Man of Steel, Battle Tempo, Escape Artist, Nimble, Iron Will, Athlete, Coward
C Tier Climber, Vengeful, Hoarder, Diver, Endurance
D Tier Pitcher, Garbage Collector, Bargainer, Night Owl, Early Bird

The exact value of a trait can change depending on how you play. A trait that’s amazing for someone focused on PvP might be much less interesting for someone who’s mainly exploring and grinding.

With that out of the way, let’s break them down.

D Tier Traits

Pitcher

Pitcher makes travel around Rock Crew areas twice as fast.

It’s not completely useless, especially if you’re spending a lot of time travelling, but it doesn’t give you much during actual combat. Once you’ve got better movement options, this becomes fairly easy to overlook.

Verdict: Nice for travelling, but not something I’d prioritize.

Garbage Collector

Garbage Collector makes barrels and crates drop twice as many items when you break them.

This can be handy early on when you’re collecting resources, but its usefulness depends heavily on how often you’re actually breaking barrels and crates.

For general progression, there are simply stronger traits to chase.

Bargainer

Bargainer reduces the cost of non-premium MP Shop items by 10%.

Saving money is never bad, but a 10% discount isn’t exactly game-changing. I’d rather have a trait that directly improves combat, movement, XP, or survivability.

Night Owl

Night Owl gives you +1 Speed and 5% more damage at night.

The problem is that you’re only getting the stronger part of the effect during nighttime. It’s not terrible, but it’s fairly restrictive compared with traits that work regardless of the time of day.

Early Bird

Early Bird is basically the daytime counterpart.

You get +1 Speed and 5% more damage during the day.

Again, it’s useful when the condition is active, but I wouldn’t burn a valuable reroll trying to get it.

C Tier Traits

This is where the traits start becoming more interesting.

Climber

Climber unlocks a second climb, letting you reach higher areas while climbing.

For exploration, this can be genuinely useful. If you’re constantly travelling around the map and finding yourself unable to reach certain places, Climber makes things easier.

The problem is that it doesn’t do much for your combat performance.

Vengeful

Vengeful gives you a 1% damage increase every time you’re hit, stacking up to 10%.

The catch is that the stacks reset when you perform your next attack.

It’s a fun mechanic and can become useful if you’re taking several hits before retaliating, but you generally don’t want to be standing there getting hit just to build damage.

Hoarder

Hoarder reduces the amount of gold you lose after being pickpocketed or defeated by 50%.

If you’re carrying around a lot of money, this can save you from losing a painful amount of gold.

It’s more of a safety-net trait than something that actively makes your character stronger.

Diver

Diver doubles your lung capacity, meaning your oxygen lasts twice as long underwater.

This is one of those traits that you’ll appreciate when you’re doing underwater exploration, but outside of that situation, its usefulness drops considerably.

Endurance

Endurance prevents your speed from slowing down when your energy is low.

This is actually pretty convenient when travelling, especially if you’re constantly running around the map. Still, compared with the stronger combat-focused traits, it doesn’t quite reach the higher tiers.

B Tier Traits

Now we’re getting into traits I’d be much happier to keep.

Marathoner

Marathoner rewards you for sprinting without getting hit.

You gain 0.5 Speed per second, up to a maximum of 4 Speed. Getting hit resets the stacks.

If you’re good at avoiding damage and keeping your distance, this can give you some serious movement speed.

Man of Steel

Man of Steel prevents attacks that deal less than 3% of your HP from stunning you.

This is one of those effects that doesn’t sound amazing until you’re actually fighting someone who relies on lots of smaller attacks.

Being able to continue moving instead of constantly getting interrupted can make a noticeable difference.

Battle Tempo

Landing hits builds your damage bonus up to 7.5%.

However, getting hit reverses that bonus, dropping it to -7.5%, and the effect resets when you leave combat.

It’s a pretty interesting high-risk trait. If you’re consistently winning exchanges, you’ll get rewarded. If you’re getting hit repeatedly, though, the trait can work against you.

Escape Artist

Escape Artist gives you a temporary speed increase after you get back up from being knocked down.

This is particularly useful if you find yourself fighting players who constantly knock you down.

Instead of getting up and immediately eating another attack, you get a brief movement advantage that can help you reposition.

Nimble

Nimble gives you an additional dash.

Honestly, extra mobility is always nice.

An additional dash can help you chase players, escape attacks, reposition during combat, or simply move around the map more quickly.

Iron Will

Iron Will reduces damage by 10% when you’re hit by a move that would otherwise deal more than 10% of your HP.

This is a solid defensive trait, particularly against heavy attacks that would normally take a big chunk of your health.

Athlete

Athlete makes your dashes 40% faster outside combat and 20% faster during combat.

That’s a pretty noticeable mobility boost.

If you’re someone who likes moving quickly around the map and constantly dashing during fights, this trait can feel much better than its placement might initially suggest.

Coward

Coward activates when you’re below 30% HP, increasing your speed while you’re not actively attacking an enemy.

And honestly, there’s nothing wrong with knowing when to run.

If a fight isn’t going your way, this trait gives you a better chance of escaping instead of handing your opponent a free knockout.

A Tier Traits

This is where I’d start getting genuinely excited about a trait roll.

Protagonist

Once per fight, when your HP drops below 20%, Protagonist increases your damage by 10% and reduces the damage you take for 8 seconds.

The duration and defensive boost make this especially useful during clutch moments.

You basically get a second chance when you’re close to being knocked out.

Glass Cannon

Glass Cannon is exactly what the name suggests.

You deal 15% more damage, but you also take 15% more damage.

If you’re confident in your ability to avoid attacks, this can be extremely strong. If you’re constantly getting hit, however, you’ll definitely feel the downside.

This is one of those traits where player skill matters a lot.

Assassin

Assassin makes your first attack after leaving combat deal 25% more damage.

If you attack an enemy from behind, that bonus increases to 30%.

That’s a pretty nasty opening attack.

For players who like sneaking around, repositioning, or looking for opportunities to catch someone off guard, Assassin is an excellent option.

Prodigy

Prodigy gives you a 15% boost to XP and skill XP.

For progression, this is one of the easiest traits to appreciate.

You’re going to be earning XP anyway, so getting more of it means reaching your next upgrades and progression milestones faster.

If you’re still developing your character, I wouldn’t be too quick to throw Prodigy away.

Second Wind

Once per fight, when you’re below 20% maximum HP, Second Wind restores all of your energy and gives you Hyper Armor for 5 seconds.

That can completely change a fight.

Having all your energy restored when you’re already close to death gives you another chance to fight back, while Hyper Armor helps prevent you from being interrupted.

Chameleon

After standing still for 4 seconds, Chameleon’s cloak activates.

This is a more situational trait, but it can be extremely useful if you enjoy stealthy gameplay or setting up an ambush.

It’s definitely not for everyone, though.

Sturdy Guard

Sturdy Guard lets your guard ignore a guard break hit once every 20 seconds.

For players who spend a lot of time blocking, this is a really useful defensive effect.

That extra protection against a guard break can give you just enough time to recover and continue the fight.

Arrogant

When you’re above 90% HP, Arrogant gives you 15% more damage.

The condition is simple: stay healthy and you get a significant damage boost.

This works particularly well if you’re good at avoiding unnecessary damage and starting fights on your own terms.

Gourmand

Gourmand makes food buffs last 25% longer and makes them 25% more effective.

This is particularly interesting if you’re already using food regularly.

Instead of simply giving you more stats directly, Gourmand improves the value you’re getting from something you’d already be using.

Adrenaline

After knocking down or defeating an enemy, Adrenaline restores 10% HP and 100% energy.

The energy restoration is the really impressive part.

If you’re fighting multiple enemies one after another, being able to completely refill your energy after a successful takedown can keep you going for much longer.

Mythic Traits – The Ones You Really Want

And then we get to the traits that stand out above the rest.

These are the ones I’d be very reluctant to reroll if I managed to get them.

Maniac

Maniac is one of my personal favorites.

When you’re above 50% HP, you deal 10% less damage.

That sounds awful at first, but the trait flips once your health drops below 50%.

At that point, you deal 25% more damage and take 15% less damage.

So basically, the lower your health gets, the more dangerous you become.

It’s perfect for those situations where a fight is looking completely lost and suddenly you turn things around.

Copycat

Copycat lets you copy the last skill that hit you.

After copying it, you can press X within 30 seconds to use that skill against your opponent.

There are limitations—the fruit skills don’t count—but the ability to turn an enemy’s own skill against them is still incredibly powerful.

It’s also just one of those traits that’s fun to use.

Gaudy

Gaudy gives you a fourth accessory slot.

That’s a huge benefit because accessories can provide additional bonuses and stats.

Rather than giving you one temporary effect, Gaudy effectively gives you another equipment slot to work with.

If you’re building your character around accessories, this is an obvious trait to value highly.

Pyro Maniac

Pyro Maniac is the trait to look at if you’re using burn effects.

When attacking enemies who are burning, the burn builds 25% faster and deals 25% more tick damage.

For a build that already revolves around burn, that’s a serious boost.

The important thing here is that Pyro Maniac becomes much better when your build can consistently apply burn. If you’re not using burn at all, obviously you’re not getting the full benefit.

If I had to narrow the entire list down, my personal favorites would be Maniac and Copycat, with Gaudy also being an extremely attractive option.

Maniac is especially interesting because it rewards you for surviving when your HP is low, while Copycat gives you an entirely different way to approach combat.

For pure progression, though, Prodigy deserves a special mention because that 15% XP boost can save you a lot of grinding over time.

And if you’re building around accessories, I’d absolutely value Gaudy highly because the fourth accessory slot gives you more room to customize your build.

There isn’t necessarily one trait that’s perfect for every player. Your build, playstyle, and what you’re doing in Grand Blue all matter.

Still, if you’re sitting on a rare reroll and wondering what to hope for, the Mythic traits are the ones I’d be watching for first.

Grand Blue Trait Ranking

To keep things simple, here’s the ranking one more time:

Mythic: Maniac, Copycat, Gaudy, Pyro Maniac

A Tier: Glass Cannon, Assassin, Prodigy, Second Wind, Chameleon, Sturdy Guard, Arrogant, Gourmand, Adrenaline

B Tier: Marathoner, Man of Steel, Battle Tempo, Escape Artist, Nimble, Iron Will, Athlete, Coward

C Tier: Climber, Vengeful, Hoarder, Diver, Endurance

D Tier: Pitcher, Garbage Collector, Bargainer, Night Owl, Early Bird

Of course, I’d love to hear where you disagree with this list. Some of the B and C Tier traits can become much better depending on how you play, so there is definitely room for debate.

If you rolled one of the Mythic traits, though, I’d think twice before rerolling it.
