The Mariana’s Awakening update in Fisch adds a new quest progression that takes you through the different layers of Mariana’s Veil. Along the way, you’ll meet several NPCs who give you fishing challenges that must be completed with specific rods, fish, mutations, and conditions.
There are five Gauntlets to collect in total, with each one tied to a different NPC and area. The quests become more demanding as you progress deeper into Mariana’s Veil, so having the right rods and fishing boosts ready will save you a lot of time.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through the Gauntlet quests we know about, including where to find each NPC, which fish you need to catch, what conditions they require, and what you receive after completing each quest.
Fisch 5 Gauntlets Guide – How to Get Them in Mariana’s Awakening
Here are the five Gauntlets connected to the Mariana’s Awakening progression:
| Gauntlet | NPC | Area | Required Rod |
|---|---|---|---|
| Volcanic Gauntlet | Ignis | Volcanic Vents | Volcanic Rod |
| Challenger’s Gauntlet | Glacius | Challenger’s Deep | Challenger’s Rod |
| Abyssal Gauntlet | Tenebris | Abyssal Zenith | Rod of the Zenith |
| Luminis Gauntlet | Luminis | Mariana’s Veil | — |
| Resonus Gauntlet | Resonus | Mariana’s Veil | — |
The first three Gauntlets and their quests are detailed below. The remaining quests can be added as their requirements are confirmed.
Volcanic Gauntlet – Ignis Quest
Your first stop is Ignis, who can be found at Volcanic Vents.
Look for him opposite the Volcanic Rod at approximately:
GPS: (-3343, -2028, 4076)
Talk to Ignis to start his fishing challenges.
Ignis Quest Requirements
Ignis gives you two tasks:
| Quest | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Quest 1 | Perfect Catch 2 Ashen Fortune Charred Coelacanth with the Volcanic Rod |
| Quest 2 | Catch 1 Ashen Fortune Obsidian-Plated Piranha with the Volcanic Rod |
Both fish require specific fishing conditions, so don’t just throw your line anywhere and hope they appear.
Obsidian-Plated Piranha Requirements
For the Ashen Fortune Obsidian-Plated Piranha, use:
- Bait: Worm
- Season: Summer
- Time: Day
- Weather: Rain
You also need to use the Volcanic Rod for Ignis’s quest.
Charred Coelacanth Requirements
The Ashen Fortune Charred Coelacanth requires:
- Bait: Squid
- Season: Summer or Autumn
- Time: Night
- Weather: Clear
You need two Perfect Catches for this fish, so make sure you’re paying attention to the fishing bar rather than simply trying to catch them as quickly as possible.
How to Finish Ignis’s Quest Faster
I recommend equipping the Mutated Sharky Companion before starting this part of the quest. The additional fishing boost can make the process less frustrating, especially when you’re hunting for specific mutated fish.
Once you’ve completed both objectives, return to Ignis.
You’ll receive the Volcanic Gauntlet.
Challenger’s Gauntlet – Glacius Quest
After finishing the Ignis quest, head to Challenger’s Deep.
The next NPC is Glacius, who can be found opposite the Challenger’s Deep Rod.
His approximate location is:
GPS: (738, -3355, -1529)
Speak with Glacius to begin the next set of challenges.
Glacius Quest Requirements
You need to complete two objectives:
| Quest | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Quest 1 | Catch 3 Chilled Hoarfrost Halibut with the Challenger’s Rod |
| Quest 2 | Perfect Catch 1 Chilled Glacial Gulper with the Challenger’s Rod |
Both fish have specific conditions, so prepare your bait and wait for the correct weather and time if necessary.
Glacial Gulper Requirements
For the Chilled Glacial Gulper, use:
- Bait: Shrimp
- Season: Winter
- Time: Night
- Weather: Foggy
You need one Perfect Catch.
Hoarfrost Halibut Requirements
For the Chilled Hoarfrost Halibut, use:
- Bait: Fish Head
- Season: Winter
- Time: Day
- Weather: Clear
You need to catch three of them.
Glacius Quest Tips
The Mutated Sharky Companion is useful here as well.
You can also use a Glitched Potion to help with the fishing process before heading into the grind.
Make sure you have the Challenger’s Rod equipped when completing these objectives. Using another rod won’t satisfy the quest requirement.
Once both objectives are finished, return to Glacius.
You’ll receive the Challenger’s Gauntlet.
Abyssal Gauntlet – Tenebris Quest
The third Gauntlet quest takes you much deeper into Mariana’s Veil.
This time, you’ll need to reach Abyssal Zenith, the third layer of Mariana’s Veil.
The NPC you’re looking for is Tenebris.
His location is approximately:
GPS: (-1043.4, -1043.7, 84.7)
Tenebris can be found across from the Anglerfish Pond.
Getting to Tenebris
The area around the Anglerfish Pond can be dangerous because of the anglerfish.
Instead of swimming directly through the area, it’s safer to glide across when possible. This helps you avoid unnecessary attacks while making your way to the NPC.
Once you reach Tenebris, speak with him to receive his two fishing objectives.
Tenebris Quest Requirements
| Quest | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Quest 1 | Catch 2 Wrath Lumin-Lure Lanternfish with the Rod of the Zenith |
| Quest 2 | Perfect Catch 1 Wrath Void-Drifter Jelly with the Rod of the Zenith |
Both fish require specific conditions.
Lumin-Lure Lanternfish Requirements
For the Wrath Lumin-Lure Lanternfish, use:
- Bait: Shrimp
- Season: Spring or Autumn
- Time: Night
- Weather: Clear
You need to catch two of them.
Void-Drifter Jelly Requirements
For the Wrath Void-Drifter Jelly, use:
- Bait: Seaweed
- Season: Autumn or Winter
- Time: Night
- Weather: Foggy
You need one Perfect Catch.
Make sure you’re using the Rod of the Zenith for both objectives.
Claiming the Abyssal Gauntlet
After you’ve caught all the required fish, return to Tenebris and speak with him again.
Completing his quest rewards you with the Abyssal Gauntlet.
Luminis and Resonus Gauntlets
There are two additional Gauntlets connected to the Mariana’s Awakening progression:
- Luminis Gauntlet
- Resonus Gauntlet
Their quests continue the same overall progression through Mariana’s Veil.
Because these later objectives can require additional quest information and progression details, it’s important to follow the NPC requirements carefully rather than assuming they work exactly like the earlier Gauntlets.
The overall goal of completing the five NPC questlines is to progress through Mariana’s Awakening and eventually unlock access to the Obsidian Trench.
Fish Requirements at a Glance
If you’re preparing for the Gauntlet quests, here’s a quick reference for the fish covered in the confirmed objectives:

Tips for Completing the Gauntlet Quests
Keep the Required Rods Ready
Each NPC’s objectives are tied to a particular rod.
For Ignis, you need the Volcanic Rod.
For Glacius, you need the Challenger’s Rod.
For Tenebris, you need the Rod of the Zenith.
Don’t start fishing before checking which rod the quest requires.
Check Conditions Before Fishing
Some of these fish have very specific combinations of:
- Season
- Time
- Weather
- Bait
- Mutation
If you’re not getting the fish you’re looking for, check all of these requirements before assuming the fish is extremely rare.
Use Fishing Boosts
The Mutated Sharky Companion can be useful across multiple parts of the questline.
For the Challenger’s Deep section, a Glitched Potion can also help improve your fishing setup.
Pay Attention to Perfect Catches
Several objectives specifically require a Perfect Catch.
For these quests, catching the correct fish isn’t enough. You need to land it with the required Perfect Catch result.
Take your time with these instead of rushing through the fishing minigame.
Glide Through Dangerous Areas
When traveling around Abyssal Zenith, watch out for the anglerfish around the pond.
Gliding is a safer way to cross the area and can save you from taking unnecessary damage while you’re trying to reach Tenebris.
The five Gauntlets aren’t just collectibles. They’re part of the larger Mariana’s Awakening progression.
You’ll need to work through the individual NPC challenges across Mariana’s Veil before you can progress toward the Obsidian Trench.
For now, focus on completing each confirmed fishing quest with the correct rod, bait, mutation, and environmental conditions. Once you’ve collected the required Gauntlets, you can continue deeper into the update and work toward the next part of the questline.
