Bug Evolution immerses players in a survival adventure where they experience life as a bug. The game begins with you hatching from an egg after consuming enough food. Once you’re out in the wild, you can hunt other bugs and eat to gain XP, allowing your bug to age and unlock new species. Your ultimate goal is to achieve the final evolution state by engaging in this core gameplay loop.

Let’s explore how to start thriving in Bug Evolution.

Where to Begin in Bug Evolution

Overview

Bug Evolution features a clear gameplay loop. Starting the game or switching to a new bug species places you on the map as an egg. Rolling into glowing orbs provides XP, helping you age and eventually hatch. Once hatched, you can explore the environment, hunt, and gather food to continue leveling up.

Gaining XP enables level-ups, which serve two purposes: aging your bug and unlocking new bugs. As your bug ages, it grows stronger and better equipped to tackle dangers from other bugs and predators. This is essential as you get further in the game, where you’re more vulnerable.

To unlock additional bugs, you must meet at least two criteria that relate to your current level and the evolutionary state of specific bugs. There are over 30 bugs to unlock, and each can evolve independently.

If you reach the final evolution state on a server before anyone else, you can claim the title of King of the Server. Strive for this title for bragging rights and extra rewards.

Gameplay Features and Tips

  • Bug Stats: Each bug possesses unique stats that suit them for various survival tasks, including Speed, Health, Bite Damage, Bite Speed, and Stamina. For those eager to unlock new bugs, refer to the stat chart in the Bug Tree for guidance.
  • Hunting: Engaging in hunting is one of the most effective methods of leveling up. Look for NPC bugs you can defeat in combat and consume for significant XP and resources. Once your bug is sufficiently grown, prioritize hunting to enhance your levels quickly.
  • Traits: Upon reaching certain milestones, you can choose passive skills called Traits. These can be offensive, defensive, or utility-based, enhancing your combat effectiveness, survivability, or overall gameplay experience. Select one of three available Traits to best complement your bug’s abilities.
  • Combat: Success in combat typically hinges on having superior stats compared to your opponent. If your stats aren’t competitive, you’re at a high risk of defeat. Utilize abilities and tools to boost your survival chances, but it’s often wiser to avoid confrontations with significantly larger bugs.
  • Multiplayer: Players can partake in multiplayer modes, either cooperatively or in PvP. Use the Team menu to form parties for joint hunts, as teammates are immune to each other’s damage and earn 10% extra XP while hunting together. However, be cautious when battling other players; assess their levels before engaging, as mismatched levels can lead to swift losses.
  • Map Zones: The game contains multiple zones that reflect your readiness to confront various threats. Each zone has a recommended threshold level necessary for survival. The zones include: Sunny Meadow (level 1+), Muddy Lake (level 8+), Mushroom Grove (level 10+), Whispering Woods (level 15+), Dusty Desert (level 25+), Stony Ridge (level 30+), and Web Caves (level 40+).
