One of the biggest mistakes new Anime Squadron players make is investing heavily into the wrong units. Resources are limited early on, evolutions take time, and trait rerolls disappear faster than you’d expect. Because of that, knowing which units are actually worth building can save you dozens of hours of grinding.

After spending time with the current Early Access version, one thing has become clear: not every Mythic is equal. Some units completely dominate Story, Infinite, and Raids, while others are mainly stepping stones toward stronger evolutions.

If you’re wondering which units deserve your gems, evolution materials, and rerolls, this tier list breaks down the current meta and explains exactly why each unit belongs where it does.

Anime Squadron Best Units Tier List – Best Units for Beginners

S Tier (Must-Have Units)

  • Gogeta
  • Sung Jin-Woo (SJW)
  • Madara
  • Shenron

A Tier (Excellent Units)

  • Kakashi
  • Shanks
  • Speed Wagon
  • Goku
  • Vegeta

B Tier (Good but Situational)

  • Naruto
  • Whitebeard
  • Shield Hero
  • Mimosa

C Tier (Early Game Units)

  • Most Epic units
  • Most Legendary units
  • Starter progression units

These units can help you clear content early but are eventually replaced by stronger Mythics and Secrets.

S Tier Units

Gogeta

If you’re only going to focus on one unit, make it Gogeta.

Right now, Gogeta sits comfortably at the top of the meta thanks to his incredible damage output and scaling mechanics. His passive abilities allow him to continuously become stronger throughout a match, making him one of the best units for both Infinite Mode and difficult Raid content.

What makes him special:

  • Massive DPS potential
  • Critical hit scaling
  • Excellent survivability
  • Powerful ultimate attack
  • Useful in every game mode

Getting Gogeta requires evolving both Goku and Vegeta through the special questline, which takes time, but the payoff is absolutely worth it.

Sung Jin-Woo (SJW)

Sung Jin-Woo is one of those units that feels powerful the moment you unlock him.

His Shadow Soldier mechanic essentially gives you multiple units in one slot. Every summon adds more damage, more pressure on enemies, and more overall value during long matches.

Why he’s meta:

  • Strong summon system
  • Great scaling
  • Excellent damage output
  • Extremely useful for Infinite Mode

The grind to obtain him can be lengthy, but most players agree he’s one of the strongest units currently available.

Madara

Madara is arguably the best Secret unit most players can realistically farm.

Obtained through Ninja Village Chapter 4, Madara brings incredible AoE damage, burn effects, and devastating meteor attacks that make clearing waves significantly easier.

His Chakra Overflow state pushes his damage even higher, allowing him to compete with premium Mythics and other top-tier units.

Why players love Madara:

  • Free-to-farm Secret unit
  • Huge AoE damage
  • Excellent wave clearing
  • Strong boss damage

Shenron

Shenron is one of the strongest late-game units, but he comes with a major downside.

He’s expensive.

Very expensive.

While his support abilities and damage output are impressive, newer players often struggle to fully utilize him because of his deployment and upgrade costs.

For experienced players with strong economies, however, Shenron is absolutely worth bringing.

A Tier Units

Kakashi

Kakashi might not have Gogeta-level damage, but he does something almost nobody else can do.

He clears content incredibly fast.

Many players underestimate how valuable speed is in Anime Squadron. Faster clears mean faster farming, faster progression, and more rewards overall.

Why Kakashi is so popular:

  • Fastest Mythic unit
  • Excellent farming unit
  • Great progression tool
  • Useful even in late game

For newer players, Kakashi is one of the best investments available.

Shanks

Shanks isn’t built to carry your damage charts.

Instead, he makes everyone else stronger.

His support aura provides valuable debuffs and utility effects that become increasingly important in difficult content.

Benefits of using Shanks:

  • Strong support utility
  • Enemy debuffs
  • Team survivability boosts
  • Useful in Infinite and Raids

He’s not flashy, but he’s one of the most useful support units in the game.

Speed Wagon

Every serious team should have a money unit.

That’s where Speed Wagon comes in.

His economy boosts allow you to deploy stronger units sooner and reach your upgrades faster.

No matter how strong your DPS units are, they don’t help much if you can’t afford to place them.

Why he’s essential:

  • Best farm unit available
  • Improves economy dramatically
  • Fits into nearly every team composition

Goku

Many players chase Goku primarily because he’s required for Gogeta.

Fortunately, Goku is still a solid unit on his own.

His transformation mechanics, damage bonuses, and survivability allow him to remain useful during progression.

Reasons to build Goku:

  • Strong DPS
  • Required for Gogeta
  • Good progression unit

Vegeta

Vegeta follows a similar story.

His damage scales during combat, and his ultimate ability unlocks fairly early compared to many other units.

Most importantly, he’s a required piece of the Gogeta evolution path.

Why Vegeta matters:

  • Strong standalone DPS
  • Needed for Gogeta
  • Excellent scaling potential

B Tier Units

Naruto

Naruto feels like a unit designed for future updates.

Currently, his Nature buffs don’t have enough powerful targets to fully shine. As more Nature units arrive, his value could increase significantly.

Right now, he’s useful but not essential.

Whitebeard

Whitebeard offers a combination of DPS and tanking capabilities.

His survivability mechanics are impressive, but current content generally rewards pure damage over defensive playstyles.

He’s good, just not game-changing.

Shield Hero

Shield Hero is one of the best defensive units available.

The problem is that most players don’t need heavy defense yet.

If future updates introduce harder survival-focused content, his ranking could rise dramatically.

Mimosa

Healing sounds useful on paper.

In practice, most players would rather bring another DPS unit.

Mimosa can certainly help newer players, but she’s usually replaced once stronger options become available.

Best Beginner Team

If you’re just starting Anime Squadron, this is the team I’d recommend building toward:

  • Kakashi
  • Goku
  • Vegeta
  • Speed Wagon
  • Shanks
  • Any strong DPS Mythic

This setup gives you:

  • Good progression speed
  • Strong economy
  • Decent damage
  • Future access to Gogeta

Most importantly, every unit on this team contributes toward long-term progression.

Best Infinite Mode Team

For Infinite Mode, the current meta revolves around high damage and strong support.

Recommended team:

  • Gogeta
  • Sung Jin-Woo
  • Madara
  • Shenron
  • Shanks
  • Speed Wagon

This combination provides:

  • Massive DPS
  • Summons
  • Economy
  • Support utility
  • Excellent scaling

It’s one of the strongest lineups currently available for pushing deep waves.

Best Traits to Aim For

Once you’ve secured strong units, your next goal should be traits.

Currently, some of the most desirable traits include:

  • Cloning
  • Superior
  • Duplicator
  • Entrepreneur (for economy-focused units)

Getting the right trait can sometimes provide a larger power increase than obtaining a completely new unit.

Beginner Progression Path

If you’re starting fresh today, here’s the path I’d follow:

  1. Redeem all active codes.
  2. Summon for Goku, Vegeta, Kakashi, and Speed Wagon.
  3. Clear Story Mode.
  4. Farm evolution materials.
  5. Evolve Goku and Vegeta.
  6. Unlock Gogeta.
  7. Start farming Madara.
  8. Move into Raids.
  9. Work toward Shenron and Sung Jin-Woo.
  10. Begin optimizing traits and gear.

Following this route keeps your progression smooth and avoids wasting resources on units you’ll replace later.

Anime Squadron’s current meta heavily favors aggressive teams built around damage, speed, and efficient farming. While support and tank units certainly have their place, units like Gogeta, Sung Jin-Woo, Madara, and Kakashi are the ones carrying players through the hardest content right now.

If you’re unsure where to spend your resources, focus on unlocking Gogeta first. From there, start farming Madara and work toward obtaining Sung Jin-Woo. Add Speed Wagon and Shanks to support them, and you’ll have a team capable of handling almost everything the current version of Anime Squadron can throw at you.
