Lanterns are easy to overlook in Slayers 2, but some of them can actually make a noticeable difference to your build. They aren’t just cosmetic items or tools for seeing in dark areas. Better lanterns can give you useful health or stamina regeneration bonuses, which can matter a lot during long fights.
There are several Lanterns available, ranging from the basic Lantern you can buy early in the game to much stronger endgame options such as the Lantern of Everlasting Glow and Lantern of Despair. The main difference between them is what kind of regeneration and utility they provide.
So in this guide, I’ll rank the best Lanterns in Slayers 2 from S Tier to C Tier and explain what each one does, where you can get it, and which Lantern makes the most sense for your build.
Slayers 2 Best Lantern Tier List – All Lanterns Ranked
Here is my current ranking based on the known bonuses and overall usefulness of each Lantern.
S Tier – Best Lanterns
Lantern of Everlasting Glow
Best for: Overall use, health regeneration, endgame
The Lantern of Everlasting Glow is the first Lantern I’d recommend if you’re looking for the strongest general-purpose option.
It can be obtained from Ouwigahara Chests and provides:
- +15% Health Regeneration
- +5% Stamina Regeneration
That combination is what makes it so good.
You’re getting both health and stamina regeneration instead of focusing entirely on one resource. This makes the Lantern useful for general PvE, boss fights, grinding, and other situations where you’re constantly using abilities and taking damage.
The source information also identifies it as the best Lantern, and I can see why. Its bonuses are useful regardless of whether you’re focusing on damage, survivability, or general progression.
Verdict: One of the best all-around Lanterns in Slayers 2.
A Tier – Excellent Lanterns
Lantern of Despair
Best for: Stamina-focused builds
The Lantern of Despair is another excellent endgame Lantern.
It can be obtained from Mugen Train and provides:
- +15% Stamina Regeneration
- +5% Health Regeneration
Compared with the Lantern of Everlasting Glow, it essentially puts more emphasis on stamina regeneration.
That makes it particularly interesting for players who constantly use skills, movement, combos, or other stamina-consuming actions.
The only reason I wouldn’t put it above Everlasting Glow for general use is that the Everlasting Glow gives you the stronger health regeneration bonus while still providing stamina regeneration.
Verdict: Excellent option if stamina regeneration is especially important to your build.
Box Lantern
Best for: Health regeneration
The Box Lantern comes from Tier 5 content and provides:
- +10% Health Regeneration
That’s a very useful bonus, especially if you’re still working toward the higher-end Lanterns.
It doesn’t offer the same combination of bonuses as Everlasting Glow or Lantern of Despair, but +10% health regeneration is still significant.
If you obtain one before getting the stronger endgame Lanterns, there’s little reason not to use it.
Verdict: Strong health-regeneration option.
B Tier – Good Lanterns
Old Lantern
Best for: Early/mid progression
The Old Lantern can be obtained with a 10% chance from Ouwigahara Dungeon.
It provides:
- +5% Health Regeneration
- +5% Stamina Regeneration
This is actually a nice balanced bonus.
The problem is simply that its numbers are lower than the endgame Lanterns.
Still, having both health and stamina regeneration makes the Old Lantern useful while you’re progressing.
Verdict: Good balanced Lantern and a useful stepping stone toward better equipment.
C Tier – Basic Utility
Lantern
Best for: Beginners
The normal Lantern is the basic option.
You can purchase it from Kenzie in Kabiwaru Village for 600 Wen.
Its main purpose is utility:
- Lights up dark areas
- Improves night render distance
Unlike the higher-tier Lanterns, it doesn’t give you the strong regeneration bonuses that make the later options valuable for combat.
That doesn’t make it useless, though.
If you’re just starting the game and exploring at night, this is a perfectly fine item to have.
Verdict: Good starter utility, but replace it when you obtain a Lantern with combat bonuses.
Complete Slayers 2 Lantern Ranking
For a quick overview:
S Tier
- Lantern of Everlasting Glow
A Tier
- Lantern of Despair
- Box Lantern
B Tier
- Old Lantern
C Tier
- Lantern
Best Lantern for Health Regeneration
If your main goal is health regeneration, the Lantern of Everlasting Glow is the obvious choice from the currently known Lanterns.
Its +15% Health Regeneration is higher than the Box Lantern’s +10% and Old Lantern’s +5%.
The Lantern of Despair also provides health regeneration, but its bonus is only +5%, with more of its value going toward stamina regeneration.
So the progression is simple:
Lantern of Everlasting Glow → Lantern of Despair → Box Lantern → Old Lantern → Basic Lantern
when looking specifically at health regeneration.
Best Lantern for Stamina
If stamina is your biggest concern, the Lantern of Despair becomes especially attractive.
It gives:
+15% Stamina Regeneration
That’s higher than the Everlasting Glow’s +5% stamina regeneration.
This can be useful for builds that constantly spend stamina during combat.
If you’re frequently running out of stamina during combos or extended fights, the Lantern of Despair can therefore be more useful to you than its overall tier might suggest.
Best Balanced Lantern
For a balanced build, I’d choose the Lantern of Everlasting Glow.
It gives:
+15% Health Regen +5% Stamina Regen
You’re not maximizing either stat individually, but you’re getting a strong combination of both.
That’s why it works so well as an all-purpose Lantern.
Best Lantern for Boss Farming
For boss farming, I’d generally go with the Lantern of Everlasting Glow.
Boss fights can become long, especially when you’re farming for rare drops. Having additional health regeneration helps you stay in the fight, while the stamina regeneration gives you more resources for abilities and movement.
If your particular build consumes a huge amount of stamina, however, the Lantern of Despair is worth considering.
So I’d think about it like this:
General boss farming → Lantern of Everlasting Glow
Stamina-heavy build → Lantern of Despair
Best Lantern for Beginners
For a new player, the regular Lantern is perfectly fine.
You only need 600 Wen, and you can buy it from Kenzie in Kabiwaru Village.
At this stage, your priority should be progressing through the game rather than spending a huge amount of time chasing an endgame Lantern.
Once you start getting into Ouwigahara, Mugen Train, Tier 5 content, and other higher-level activities, start replacing your basic Lantern.
Lantern Progression Guide
If you’re starting from nothing, I’d follow this progression:
Basic Lantern
↓
Old Lantern
↓
Box Lantern
↓
Lantern of Everlasting Glow / Lantern of Despair
You don’t necessarily need to collect every Lantern in between.
If you get a strong endgame Lantern early, just use it and move on.
Lantern of Everlasting Glow vs Lantern of Despair
This is probably the biggest comparison you’ll make once you reach endgame.
| Lantern | Health Regen | Stamina Regen | Best Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lantern of Everlasting Glow | +15% | +5% | General/endgame |
| Lantern of Despair | +5% | +15% | Stamina-heavy builds |
| Box Lantern | +10% | — | Health-focused progression |
| Old Lantern | +5% | +5% | Balanced progression |
| Lantern | — | — | Basic utility |
The important thing is that neither endgame Lantern is automatically perfect for every build.
If you value health regeneration more, use Everlasting Glow.
If stamina regeneration is more important to you, Lantern of Despair becomes a very strong alternative.
Should You Farm a Better Lantern?
Yes, but don’t make Lantern farming your first priority.
Your Breathing Style or Demon Art, weapon, clan, and major accessories will generally have a much bigger effect on your overall build.
Once your main build is established, upgrading your Lantern becomes an easy way to add extra regeneration to your character.
This is especially useful for players who spend a lot of time farming bosses or completing longer PvE content.
The Lantern of Everlasting Glow is currently the strongest all-around Lantern based on the known bonuses, giving you +15% health regeneration and +5% stamina regeneration.
The Lantern of Despair is the main alternative and can actually be the better fit if your build heavily relies on stamina, thanks to its +15% stamina regeneration.
For progression, the Box Lantern and Old Lantern are both useful stepping stones, while the basic Lantern is mainly a starter utility item.
As with the other Slayers 2 tier lists, treat these rankings as a current-release guide rather than something permanent. The game is still being balanced, and new Lanterns or balance changes can easily shift the rankings later.
