Anime Apocalypse has received a new update, and there is quite a bit of new content to check out. The update introduces the Endless Cycle, a new King of Greed world boss, a new game mode, Guild Battles, Guild upgrades, Guild Points, and two new abilities.
The two abilities getting the most attention are Return by Death and King of Greed. Subaru is obviously going to be one of the biggest reasons players jump into this update, so I wanted to take a closer look at both abilities and see how they actually perform.
I tested both movesets and, honestly, they have some good moments. King of Greed focuses heavily on large-area attacks, while Subaru’s Return by Death kit has some pretty flashy abilities of its own. Here’s everything you need to know about the new update.
Anime Apocalypse Return by Death and King of Greed Guide
The update adds several new features alongside the two new abilities.
The main additions include:

With all of that added at once, there’s plenty to work toward even if you’re not specifically interested in the new abilities.
King of Greed Ability
Let’s start with King of Greed.
The moveset has a lot of large-area attacks, which fits the type of gameplay Anime Apocalypse is built around. Even the basic M1 attacks cover a surprisingly large amount of space.
The first impression is that you’re going to be hitting multiple enemies pretty easily with this kit.
King of Greed M1s
The M1 attacks have a fairly large area of effect.
They aren’t anything completely ridiculous on their own, but the amount of space they cover makes them useful when you’re fighting groups of enemies.
For a game where you’re constantly dealing with multiple targets, having attacks with this much coverage is definitely a plus.
Skysplitter
The first major move is Skysplitter.
This is essentially a huge nuke-style attack. The effect covers a large area and delivers the kind of burst damage you’d expect from a move with this name.
It’s one of the more noticeable attacks in the King of Greed kit because of its large impact area.
Earth Shatterer
Next up is Earth Shatterer.
This move is more difficult to appreciate visually because of the effects, but it involves a series of attacks that hit the target.
After testing it again, the move looks decent, although it isn’t necessarily the standout ability in the kit.
Never Ending Rain
Never Ending Rain is another large-area attack.
Like the other abilities, it focuses on covering a significant amount of space rather than providing a small, precise attack.
The overall moveset seems to follow this same theme, with several big AoE abilities that are designed to clear groups of enemies.
Slow Down
The V move for King of Greed is called Slow Down.
The exact effect wasn’t immediately obvious from the showcase, but it appears to be another part of the ability’s overall utility.
It’s one of those moves that you’ll probably understand better after using it in actual gameplay rather than simply watching the animation.
King of Greed Ultimate
The King of Greed ultimate is another large attack with a fairly dramatic presentation.
However, this was probably the least convincing part of the showcase.
The rest of the moveset has clear AoE value, but the ultimate didn’t stand out quite as much as expected.
Overall, I’d put the King of Greed moveset around 6.5/10 based on the showcase.
It’s not bad at all, but it also doesn’t feel like an overwhelmingly powerful moveset from what was shown.
Return by Death – Subaru
Now we get to the ability that many players are probably most interested in: Subaru’s Return by Death.
The moveset is based around Subaru and includes several abilities inspired by his powers and attacks.
His M1 attacks use a whip, which fits the character and gives the basic attacks a different feel compared with King of Greed.
Elminia
The first Subaru move is Elminia.
This attack is fairly explosive and covers a decent amount of space.
The AoE could probably be better, but it still looks solid enough for dealing with multiple enemies.
The visual effects also make it one of the more noticeable attacks in the kit.
Subaru M1s
Subaru’s M1s use the whip.
They’re fairly straightforward, but the whip attacks make sense for the character and give the moveset some personality.
They’re not necessarily the biggest selling point of the ability, but they work well as basic attacks.
Shay
The second move is called Shay.
The showcase shows a series of attacks followed by another hit, although the visual effects make it somewhat difficult to see exactly what’s happening.
The smoke and effects can cover a large portion of the screen, which makes the attack look more chaotic than it probably needs to be.
The damage appears decent, but the presentation of the move could be cleaner.
Unseen Hand
One of the more interesting Subaru attacks is Unseen Hand.
This move stood out more during the showcase and looks much more satisfying than some of the other abilities.
It’s a good representation of Subaru’s abilities and gives the kit a different type of attack compared with the large explosive moves.
Return by Death
The V move for Subaru is, naturally, Return by Death.
The exact effect wasn’t completely obvious from the showcase, but it appears to have a utility-focused purpose rather than simply being another giant attack.
You’ll likely need to use the ability yourself to fully understand how its mechanics work in different situations.
Subaru Ultimate
Subaru’s ultimate is where things get a little complicated.
At first, the ultimate looked promising and seemed more interesting than the King of Greed ultimate.
However, after testing it again, the result was less impressive.
The animation and effects make it difficult to tell exactly what the ultimate is doing, and the showcase didn’t make its purpose particularly clear.
Because of that, it’s difficult to judge the ultimate purely from the demonstration.
Return by Death vs King of Greed
Both abilities ended up receiving roughly the same rating from the showcase: 6.5/10.
King of Greed has the advantage when it comes to large AoE attacks. Its M1s and abilities cover a lot of ground, which should make it useful for dealing with groups.
Subaru’s moveset has more character-specific abilities such as Unseen Hand and Return by Death, but some of the animations and effects make it harder to judge exactly how strong the kit is.

Ultimately, you’ll probably want to test both yourself before deciding which one you prefer.
Endless Cycle and King of Greed World Boss
The update isn’t only about the new abilities.
A new Endless Cycle feature has been added, along with the King of Greed world boss.
The world boss gives players another major target to fight and adds more content to the update beyond the standard modes.
New Game Mode
A brand-new game mode has also been introduced.
The update doesn’t stop at simply adding another ability or boss, so players have another way to play through the new content.
Guild Battles and Guild Upgrades
Guild-focused players also have new content to work toward.
Guild Battles have been added, along with new Guild upgrades and Guild Points.
This gives guilds more progression and another reason to stay active with their members.
If you’re part of an active guild, the new systems should give you more goals to work toward outside of normal character progression.
The latest Anime Apocalypse update brings a pretty healthy amount of new content, with Return by Death and King of Greed being the two abilities most players will probably want to try first.
King of Greed has a strong focus on large AoE attacks, while Subaru’s Return by Death moveset brings several character-specific abilities such as Elminia, Unseen Hand, and Return by Death itself.
From the showcase, both abilities sit around the 6.5/10 mark. Neither one looks terrible, but neither immediately stood out as an unbeatable new meta ability either.
On top of the new abilities, the Endless Cycle, King of Greed world boss, new game mode, Guild Battles, Guild upgrades, and Guild Points give players plenty of additional content to explore.
