If you’ve been looking for a fun build instead of another “highest damage possible” setup, the Evolved Dodge Build is easily one of the most entertaining ways to play An Average Campaign. Is it the fastest speedrun build? Not really. Is it ridiculously satisfying watching enemies constantly miss while your dodge chance keeps climbing? Absolutely.

This build revolves around stacking permanent dodge bonuses until your character becomes incredibly difficult to hit. It takes some patience to set up, but once everything comes together, the build feels completely different from a normal run.

I wouldn’t recommend this as your very first playthrough because it requires a specific race and some preparation. However, if you’ve already beaten the game and want something fresh, this build is definitely worth trying.

An Average Campaign Evolved Build Guide – Best Boons, Gear

The entire strategy revolves around permanently increasing your dodge chance throughout your run.

Instead of rushing every encounter, you’ll intentionally farm dodge stacks early. Those stacks snowball into higher survivability, more critical damage, and eventually one of the safest late-game setups available.

The downside?

The early game is slower than most builds.

You’ll spend quite a bit of time preparing before your character truly starts to shine.

Build Requirements

Before starting this build, make sure you have these unlocked.

Race

Withered (Required)

This build simply doesn’t function properly without Withered.

The race’s passive healing allows you to repeatedly guard against weak enemies without slowly dying.

If you don’t have Withered unlocked yet, it’s worth obtaining first before attempting this setup.

Best Boons

These three boons are the core of the build.

Flow State (Highest Priority)

This is the reason the build exists.

Flow State grants:

  • Permanent Critical Damage every successful dodge
  • Permanent Dodge Chance every successful dodge
  • Maximum of 50 permanent stacks
  • Maximum of 5 stacks per encounter

After reaching 40 dodges, your dodge cap also increases from 80% to 85%.

Every single encounter becomes an opportunity to permanently strengthen your character.

Nothing else matters more than getting this boon.

Swift Striker

Once Flow State is active, Swift Striker becomes the next important pickup.

Effect:

  • Critical Hits grant Fleet Footed
  • Fleet Footed provides additional Dodge Chance for the next turn

Since this build naturally builds critical chance, you’ll trigger Fleet Footed very often during combat.

Pinpoint (Critical Chance)

Flat Critical Chance is always valuable.

More critical hits means:

  • More consistent damage
  • Better synergy with Swift Striker
  • Faster combat

Simple but extremely effective.

Best Stat Priorities

Don’t spread your points around too much.

Dexterity (Highest Priority)

Almost every level should go into Dexterity.

Benefits include:

  • Higher Dodge Chance
  • Better scaling for Evolved abilities
  • Stronger overall damage

You’ll continue investing into Dexterity throughout almost the entire run.

Health

A few points into HP help survive unlucky encounters before your dodge chance becomes reliable.

Heavy-Handed

One of the better Brawler perks to max.

Extra damage is always welcome, especially since this build isn’t purely defensive.

How to Farm Flow State Stacks

This is the most important part of the entire guide.

Every encounter can only provide five Flow State stacks.

That means you’ll intentionally extend fights instead of finishing enemies immediately.

The general strategy looks like this:

  1. Eliminate dangerous enemies.
  2. Leave one weak enemy alive.
  3. Spam Guard.
  4. Wait until you gain five dodge stacks.
  5. Finish the encounter.

Repeat.

Yes, it’s repetitive.

But it’s also how the build becomes incredibly strong later.

Best Enemies to Farm

The safest enemies include:

  • Pebbles
  • Rats
  • Pixies

These enemies deal low damage and allow you to safely guard for multiple turns.

If necessary, Bandits can also work, although they’re riskier.

Best Gear to Craft

Several equipment pieces stand out for this build.

Red Hide Hood

One of your earliest priorities.

It provides additional Dodge Chance and works perfectly with your Dexterity investment.

Craft this as soon as possible.

Monk Gloves

Excellent early Dexterity option until stronger equipment becomes available.

Drifter Hat

One of the strongest upgrades later in the run.

Provides:

  • Dexterity
  • Critical Damage
  • Critical Chance

Definitely worth defeating the Drifter for.

Dragonite Chestplate

A solid defensive upgrade once materials become available.

Even dodge builds still need armor.

Red Scale Leggings

Provides another strong Dexterity boost while completing your armor progression.

Ether Roll Soles

Probably the most important footwear choice.

Benefits include:

  • Flat Dodge Chance
  • Large Dexterity bonus

These are much better suited to this build than standard Red Scale Boots.

Necrosis in a Bottle

Later in the run you’ll have access to this charm.

Benefits:

  • Poison damage increase
  • Dexterity bonus

Since Evolved naturally applies poison, it’s an excellent fit.

Helpful NPC Choices

Several encounters are especially useful.

Strange Man

Reject his offer but study his techniques.

Doing so grants additional Critical Chance, which fits perfectly into this build.

Druid

Accepting the Druid’s guidance provides additional healing.

While its interaction with Withered isn’t completely obvious, the extra sustain is still useful during longer fights.

Potion Seller

Always worth visiting.

Since this build intentionally drags out fights, extra healing potions provide valuable insurance against bad luck.

Evolved Skills Explained

Once your class evolves, your moves become much stronger.

Here’s what each important ability does.

Devour

This is your primary finishing move.

Advantages:

  • Deals more damage against low-health enemies
  • Heals you after successful kills
  • Every three kills grants an extra stat point

Whenever possible, finish enemies using Devour instead of basic attacks.

Those bonus stat points add up surprisingly quickly over an entire run.

Self Embodiment

A powerful but risky skill.

It:

  • Damages yourself
  • Applies Poison
  • Grants Evolution stacks

Use it carefully.

During boss fights, it’s often worth sacrificing health to evolve earlier.

Toxic Slash

One of your strongest damage abilities.

It:

  • Applies Poison
  • Deals additional damage based on poison stacks
  • Gains multiple extra hits while Evolved

Once transformed, this ability melts enemies.

Sucker Punch

Arguably the strongest skill in the entire build.

Instead of acting like a normal attack, it functions as a counter.

After using Sucker Punch:

  • Enemies attack you
  • Your character immediately counters
  • Multiple enemies can trigger counterattacks
  • Excellent against groups

Combined with your growing dodge chance, this move becomes incredibly satisfying.
