The Chainsaw Man update in Verse Piece doesn’t waste time easing you in. It drops two high-profile specs, Makima and Denji, and immediately asks whether you’re willing to grind raids, craft materials, and push through one of the stranger questlines the game has added so far. If you’re coming in blind, it can feel confusing. Once you understand the flow, though, it’s actually pretty straightforward.
This guide breaks down how to obtain both specs, where all the required materials come from, how Denji’s F move works, and what each spec is actually like in real combat.
How to Get Makima & Denji Specs
Both Makima and Denji are crafted, not rolled. That already puts them in a better place than pure RNG specs, but the grind is still very real.
To start, head to Blacksmith Island. This is where both specs are crafted once you have the materials ready.
Makima Crafting Requirements
Makima requires:
- Three Devil Spirits
- Two Special Contracts
Denji (Chainsaw Man) Crafting Requirements
Denji requires:
- Three Special Chainsaws
- One Devil Spirit
You don’t get these items randomly from mobs or bosses in the overworld. Everything funnels back to one location.
Farming Materials – Arcade Island Raids
All required materials come from Arcade Island. Once you arrive, you’ll see the Makima NPC standing there.
Every fifteen minutes, a raid spawns on this island. Inside the raid, you fight two bosses back-to-back. These bosses are the source of Devil Spirits, Special Contracts, and Special Chainsaws.
The raid cycle is consistent, which means this becomes a loop. Show up, clear the raid, wait for the next spawn, repeat. If you’re serious about getting both specs, expect to spend a decent amount of time here.
Unlocking Denji’s F Move (Important)
Crafting Denji only gives you the base kit. His F move is locked behind a questline, and without it, the spec honestly feels incomplete.
Once you have Denji, go back to Arcade Island and talk to the Maka NPC. This starts a multi-step questline.
First, you’ll be asked to kill any mob near your level. This step is simple and mostly just there to confirm you actually have combat access.
Next, you need to roll an epic fruit or higher. Once you roll it, don’t eat it. Take the fruit and offer it directly to Maka.
After that, you’ll be given a timed boss challenge. The boss spawns specifically for the quest, and you must defeat it within the allowed time window. This is more of a DPS check than a mechanical challenge.
The final step is where things get weird. You need the Trusted Devil title, and then you must die to Maka. Once you do this correctly, she gives you a Control Ticket.
That Control Ticket unlocks Denji’s F move. At that point, the spec finally functions as intended.
Denji (Chainsaw Man) Showcase & Impressions
Without the F move, Denji feels awkward. Animations look unfinished, and the flow of combat feels off. Once F mode is unlocked, though, the spec changes completely.
With F active, Denji’s visuals improve a lot, and the damage output jumps noticeably. This is where Denji shines. His damage is higher than Makima’s overall, making him the better pick if your priority is raw DPS rather than style or control.
Denji works best when you stay aggressive. His kit rewards constant pressure, chaining attacks, and staying in close range. If you hesitate or play too defensively, he loses momentum fast.
Makima Showcase & Impressions
Makima is the opposite of Denji in terms of feel.
Her M1 is easily the standout part of her kit. It’s flashy, unique, and honestly one of the coolest-looking basic attack strings in the entire game. It might not always be the most practical in tight PvP situations, but it feels incredible to use.
Makima’s overall damage is lower than Denji’s, but her control-oriented style makes her more satisfying for players who enjoy spacing, timing, and presence rather than brute force. Her moves are solid, even if none of them individually feel as overwhelming as Denji’s F-enhanced pressure.
If Denji feels like pure chaos, Makima feels composed and deliberate.
Makima vs Denji – Which One Should You Use?
If you care about numbers, Denji wins. His damage output is higher, especially after unlocking the F move, and he fits aggressive playstyles perfectly.
If you care about feel, animation quality, and having one of the best M1 chains in the game, Makima stands out. She’s not weaker in a bad way, just different.
Ideally, you’ll want both. The grind overlaps heavily, and once you’re already farming Arcade Island raids, it makes sense to finish the job.
This update is one of Verse Piece’s stronger content drops. The specs are distinct, the raid loop is clear, and Denji’s questline, while strange, at least feels intentional.
Makima brings style and control. Denji brings damage and aggression. Neither feels rushed once fully unlocked, and both reward players who commit to learning their kits instead of just button-mashing.
