The Tomb of the Star update is one of those progression shifts where unlocking it early quietly puts your account ahead long-term. It’s not flashy at first glance, but once you understand what’s locked behind it, skipping this questline just isn’t realistic if you care about endgame farming, clans, or future updates.
If you already have Tengen Clan, you can technically enter without doing the quest. But for everyone else, this unlock process is mandatory, and even Tengen players should still learn it because clan swapping later can lock you out again.
This guide walks through everything step by step, the way a normal player would actually do it.
Before You Start: Required Materials (Do This First)
The quest itself isn’t difficult. The problem is cost. If you start without the materials ready, you’ll backtrack constantly and waste time.
Make sure you have everything below before touching the red gates.
Required Items
- Iron – from Raid Crates
- Cursed Iron – from Raid Crates
- Cursed Flash – dropped by the Cursed Remnant mini-boss
- Heavenly Fragment – from Raid Crates
- Lumens – a decent amount
- Yen – a lot more than you think you’ll need
If you’re short on any of these, farm first. The quest does not scale difficulty, but it will hard-stop you if you’re broke halfway through.
Step 1: The Four Red Gates
You can complete the red gates in any order, but all four must be done before progressing.
This is where most players get stuck, not because it’s hard, but because two gates are easy to miss and one is straight-up hidden.
Red Gate #1 – Mountain Near Teleport 5
This is the most obvious one and usually the first players find.
Location:
On the mountain near Teleport 5.
Sacrifice Required:
- 1,000 Lumens
- 10,000 Yen
- 1 Iron
This gate is basically a progression check to see if you’ve done raids at all. Iron is very common, so once it registers, move on immediately.
Red Gate #2 – Right Side of the Map (Hidden in Plain Sight)
This is the one people walk past without realizing it’s important.
Location:
Right side of the map, tucked behind a small mountain. It looks like background scenery rather than a main objective.
Sacrifice Required:
- 1,500 Lumens
- 15,000 Yen
- 1 Cursed Iron
Cursed Iron also comes from Raid Crates, so if you’ve been farming even casually, you should already have it.
Red Gate #3 – Near Kashimo Boss Spawn
This gate is usually where players realize they’re missing materials.
Location:
Near the Kashimo boss spawn.
Sacrifice Required:
- 3,000 Lumens
- 30,000 Yen
- 1 Cursed Flash
If you don’t have Cursed Flash, farm the Cursed Remnant mini-boss. That’s the consistent source. Sometimes limited events allow exchanges, but don’t rely on those.
Once sacrificed, this gate completes instantly.
Red Gate #4 – Hidden Lake Area (Most Missed Gate)
This is the gate that makes players think the quest is bugged.
Location:
Go to the lake. In one corner, there’s a spot where you jump into the water to access a hidden area. There’s no obvious marker unless you already know it exists.
Sacrifice Required:
- 100,000 Yen
- 1 Heavenly Fragment
The Heavenly Fragment comes from Raid Crates, but the Yen cost is brutal. Do not come here without checking your balance first.
Once this gate registers, all four red gates are complete.
Step 2: Lazy Sorcerer NPC Quest
After completing the red gates, return and accept the next quest from the Lazy Sorcerer NPC.
This starts the second half of the unlock, which is intentionally confusing.
Step 3: Closing All 10 Blue Gates (Fog Section)
This part isn’t hard mechanically. The game just tries to disorient you.
You are now required to close 10 Blue Gates scattered across the map, many of them inside foggy areas that mess with visibility and direction.
There is no trick here:
- You must close all 10
- Order does not matter
- Missing even one means no progression
The fastest way is to follow a map or copy a clean route and retrace it exactly. Wandering randomly will waste time.
Once the tenth gate is closed, the quest completes automatically.
Step 4: Entering the Tomb of the Star
After closing all blue gates, head to the elevator near the Doctor NPC.
This elevator is the entrance to Tomb of the Star.
You’ll immediately notice who’s completed the quest because they walk straight in while others are still stuck in fog wondering what they missed.
What You Unlock Inside Tomb of the Star
This is where the update actually becomes valuable.
Vow Exchange System
- Trade three Tier 3 Vows into one Tier 4 Vow
- Works for:
- Attack Vows
- Sorcery Vows
- Exchange three XP Vows into one XP Vow Plus
Tier 4 vows massively improve farming efficiency and raid performance, especially for endgame builds.
Infinity Token Exchange
If you’re doing the new raid mode, this is where Infinity Tokens finally matter.
You can exchange Infinity Tokens for:
- Lumens
- Clans, including:
- Tengen
- Toji
- Kenjaku
Even if you don’t have your desired clan now, this system lets you grind your way into it long-term instead of relying purely on luck.
Tomb of the Star is clearly unfinished content. This isn’t the final form.
That’s exactly why unlocking it early matters.
Future updates are going to build directly on this area. If you wait until the next update drops, you’ll already be behind because other players will walk in day one and immediately access new systems.
Even if you currently have Tengen Clan, learning and completing this quest now prevents problems later when you swap clans.
