If you’re grinding your way through New Moon and want to reach max rank fast—whether you’re a Slayer or a Demon—this complete progression guide explains every step, from your first rank to the highest unlocks, including breathing styles, Blood Demon Arts, and Nitrogen Blade crafting.
1. Slayer Progression Overview
Becoming a Slayer in New Moon is the more complete and rewarding path right now. While the Demon side is still barebones, Slayer progression includes ranks, breathing styles, and weapon upgrades.
2. Starting Out – Ranks and Missions
You begin as Mizunoto, the lowest Slayer rank.
To level up, you’ll rely entirely on missions, since this game is currently PvP-based only (no PvE yet).
How to Rank Up:
- Press M to open your menu.
- Click the Mission tab.
- Queue for missions repeatedly — they are short PvP deathmatches.
- Each victory increases your rank and grants experience.
Rank Order (Slayer):
- Mizunoto
- Mizunoi
- Kanoto
- Kanoe
- Koto
- Koowe / Higher Ranks (to be expanded later)
Each “Toe” rank (e.g., Kanoto) and “E” rank (e.g., Kanoe) alternates in progression. You’ll typically unlock one new breathing move every two ranks.
3. Getting a Breathing Style
Once you reach Kanoto, you can learn your first breathing technique.
How to Unlock Breathing:
- Press P to open the Trainer Map.
- You’ll see icons for all breathing styles (Water, Wind, Flame, etc.).
- Travel to the corresponding Breathing Trainer NPC (e.g., Water Trainer).
- Talk to the trainer and follow their dialogue to learn your breathing.
Note: The in-game marker system is currently bugged, so you may not see icons properly. You’ll need to navigate manually from the Slayer Corps HQ — trainers are usually found nearby.
4. Final Selection (Slayer Test)
To become an official Slayer, you’ll need to pass Final Selection.
Requirements:
- Must be Kanoto Rank.
Location:
- Start at the Slayer Recruiter HQ.
- Travel back to Beginner’s Village and find the forest exit gate.
- Follow the trail straight until you find a teleport pad that leads to Final Selection.
Objective:
- Simply survive until daytime (around 10 minutes real time).
- You don’t need to kill anything.
- Find a high spot (like a branch or rock) and AFK safely until it ends.
When the sun rises, you’ll automatically pass and rank up to Kanoe, marking your official Slayer graduation.
5. Crafting the Nichirin Blade
After Final Selection, you’ll want to replace your basic katana with a proper Nichirin Blade.
Steps to Obtain It:
- Get a Pickaxe — Found somewhere on the map (one-time pickup).
- Collect Crafting Materials:
- 10 Scarlet Crimson Ore – Found in a cave near Slayer HQ (mine the deposit using the pickaxe).
- 5 Scarlet Crimson Sand – Found near the Water Trainer area.
- Once you’ve gathered both materials, head to the Wandering Swordsmith NPC.
Note: The Nichirin crafting system is currently bugged, so you may not be able to forge it yet. However, these materials and locations are confirmed for when the feature becomes functional.
6. Unlocking New Breathing Moves
Each rank-up typically unlocks a new breathing technique or upgrade.
- The first move unlocks at Kanoto.
- Every second rank (e.g., Kanoto → Kanoe → Koto) tends to grant one new move.
- You can confirm your next unlock by visiting your Breathing Trainer after each rank increase.
This pattern will continue until all five moves (or the full breathing style set) are unlocked.
7. Demon Progression
Compared to Slayers, Demons in New Moon are much simpler to progress—but currently lack content depth.
8. Becoming a Demon
You become a Demon by choosing “Stay” at the end of the tutorial instead of “Run.”
Once you spawn in as a Demon, progression focuses entirely on missions and PvP.
Key Progression Goals:
- Reach Intermediate Demon Rank (by winning missions).
- Gain enough ELO (rank points) through combat.
- Eventually unlock your Blood Demon Art (BDA).
At the time of the guide, Blood Demon Arts are still partially bugged — many players report that they don’t unlock or register properly, even after meeting requirements.
9. Demon Gameplay Loop
Demons have no breathing trainers or blade crafting. Their main focus is:
- Spamming missions (just like Slayers).
- Defeating Slayers to gain rank and ELO.
- Unlocking Blood Demon Art once progression triggers.
There’s no need to eat humans or perform special rituals yet; the system is purely combat-based for now.
10. Ranking as a Demon
The rank system mirrors that of Slayers, but with Demon-specific titles:
- Low Demon
- Intermediate Demon
- Upper Demon
- and higher (planned for future updates).
Currently, Intermediate Demon appears to be the first milestone that unlocks Blood Demon Art.
If you reach that rank but don’t receive your abilities, it’s likely due to server desync — try relogging to trigger progression updates.
Progression in New Moon is straightforward but grind-heavy, relying almost entirely on PvP mission loops. The Slayer path currently offers the most content with breathing styles, Final Selection, and future Nichirin crafting, while Demons are still waiting for deeper mechanics and working BDAs.
For now, focus on ranking efficiently, mining early for blade materials, and relogging whenever bugs interrupt your progress. Once the next content patch hits, expect full breathing mastery and demon abilities to become much more fleshed out.
