How To Get the Maelstrom Rod in Fisch (Roblox)
Step 1: Reach the Northstar Village
To begin, you must access the Fishmas area. Head to Moosewood and interact with the Polar Express train. This will teleport you to the Northstar Station. From there, travel past the Glacial Ridge and continue toward the castle area until you reach the Northstar Village. Almost every requirement for the Maelstrom Rod is tied to this location.
Step 2: Obtain the Essence of Winter
The Essence of Winter is the rarest material required for the Maelstrom Rod. It looks like a snowflake in your inventory and can only be obtained by fishing within the Northstar Village.
This essence has a 1 in 1,000 drop chance, so expect a long grind. Using a high-luck fishing rod is strongly recommended. Rods like the Oneri Fal or other high-luck builds will significantly improve your odds, but patience is still required.
Step 3: Obtain the Essence of Starfrost
The Essence of Starfrost is easier to obtain than the Essence of Winter. To get it, you must fish during a Frost Moon weather event. During this event, you have a 1 in 150 chance to catch the essence anywhere in the world.
Frost Moons can spawn naturally during Fishmas, but you can also manually trigger one using a Frost Moon Totem, which is purchased with Bells in the Northstar Village. This makes farming the Essence of Starfrost far more consistent.
Step 4: Complete Santa’s Questline to Get the Everfrost Key
The Everfrost Key is required to unlock the Maelstrom Rod chamber, and it is obtained by completing Santa’s full questline. This is the same questline used to unlock Santa’s Miracle Rod.
Start by talking to Santa, who initially appears disguised. He will ask you to help four elves around the village. These tasks include finding a missing hat, cleaning up wrapping paper, collecting ribbons inside the toy factory, and hanging stockings on the mantle.
Once all elf tasks are completed, Santa reveals himself and sends you to the Northern Expedition to find the real Santa. After locating him, you must complete five additional objectives.
These objectives include catching gingerbread men and eggnog, collecting Santa presents, catching hot cocoa, delivering presents to snowmen at Glacial Ridge, and trading presents with other players. None of these steps are rare or luck-based, making them far easier than farming the essences.
After finishing the entire questline, Santa rewards you with both Santa’s Miracle Rod and the Everfrost Key.
Step 5: Trigger a Frost Moon and Activate the Levers
Once you have both essences and the Everfrost Key, wait for a Frost Moon event or activate one using a totem. During a Frost Moon, three hidden levers spawn across the Northstar Village.
One lever is located on top of the village wall and can be accessed via a ladder. The second lever is near the gingerbread house. The third lever is behind a nearby house close to the village edge.
All three levers must be activated during the same Frost Moon.
Step 6: Enter the Hidden Chamber
After pulling all three levers, a hatch opens near the village. Jump inside to access a hidden underground chamber.
Inside, you will see a creature statue. Interact with it by inserting the Essence of Winter and the Essence of Starfrost until both slots glow blue. Once this is done, use the Everfrost Key to unlock the final door.
Step 7: Defeat the Cryoshock Serpent
Behind the door is the Cryoshock Serpent encounter. This is not a normal fishing challenge. The serpent slowly moves toward you, and if it touches you, you instantly die.
Your fishing rod must have one of the following Fishmas enchantments: Merry, Gingerbread, or Peppermint. Without one of these, the game will block you from fishing entirely.
The serpent has extremely harsh modifiers, including negative progress speed, making the fight difficult even with strong rods. Keep your distance, stay focused, and be prepared for multiple attempts.
Once you successfully catch the Cryoshock Serpent, the path forward unlocks.
Step 8: Complete the Ice Obby and Buy the Maelstrom Rod
After the fight, you must complete a short ice obby. The ice platforms break quickly, so move carefully and do not rush unnecessarily.
At the end of the obby, you will find the Maelstrom Rod available for purchase. The rod costs 3.25 million coins, so make sure you have enough currency beforehand.
Once purchased, the Maelstrom Rod is permanently unlocked on your account.
