Scoria Armor is basically the first real “progression gate” you hit when entering Scoria Reach. You can explore the outer island without it, sure, but the moment you try moving toward the volcano or lava fishing zones, the heat damage becomes unbearable. That’s why most players rush this armor as soon as they arrive — it turns a frustrating survival struggle into normal gameplay again.
The good news is that getting it is actually straightforward once you understand what the game expects you to do.
Step 1 — Go to Scoria Reach
Your first objective is simply reaching the island itself. Scoria Reach is located between Grand Reef and Lost Jungle, and once you land there, you’ll notice immediately that the environment is different from anywhere else.
There’s lava everywhere instead of water, and even standing near it slowly increases your temperature. At this stage, you don’t need to go anywhere dangerous yet. Just focus on unlocking the requirements for the armor.
Step 2 — Get a Rod with Invincible Enchantment
Before you even think about bestiary progress, you need a rod that can handle lava fishing.
This is where most players get stuck because they try fishing with normal rods. Lava fishing won’t work unless your rod has the Invincible enchantment or is specifically designed for extreme environments.
Without that enchantment, you simply cannot catch the fish required to unlock the armor.
So the real “first step” is making sure your rod is properly prepared.
Step 3 — Complete 20% of the Scoria Reach Bestiary
This is the main requirement for unlocking the armor.
You don’t need to finish the entire bestiary, which would take a long time. Instead, you only need to discover about twenty percent of the fish from this region.
This usually means spending some time fishing in the outer lava pools around the island rather than going straight toward the volcano. Using a Fish Radar helps a lot here because some fish spawn only in specific hidden pools.
If you focus on easier outer-area fish first, you can hit the twenty percent mark fairly quickly.
Step 4 — Go to Ashbrook Town and Buy the Armor
Once you reach the bestiary requirement, head to Ashbrook Town in the center of the island.
There you’ll find the merchant selling Scoria Armor for 75,000 currency. There’s no hidden quest or crafting involved — you simply purchase it once the bestiary condition is met.
This is why the armor is considered progression-based rather than grind-based.
Step 5 — Why Scoria Armor Is So Important
After equipping the armor, the difference is immediate.
You can now move safely around the volcano area without constantly taking burn damage. This opens access to deeper lava fishing pools, rare fish spawns, and world events like the Skeletal Leviathan hunt.
In other words, the armor doesn’t just make things easier — it unlocks the entire core content of Scoria Reach.
Without it, you’re basically stuck in the outer zone.
Fastest Method Summary
The quickest way to get Scoria Armor is to focus only on what matters.
Start by bringing a rod with Invincible enchantment. Fish in safe outer lava pools until you reach twenty percent bestiary completion. Then go straight to Ashbrook Town and purchase the armor.
Trying to explore the volcano early or chase rare fish before getting the armor only slows you down.
Scoria Armor is designed as the gateway item for the entire region. Once you have it, Scoria Reach stops feeling like a survival challenge and starts functioning like a normal progression zone.
That’s why experienced players treat it as their absolute first priority when arriving on the island.
