The Ward 11 update is not just a map expansion. It is a full system overhaul that changes how builds, progression, and even survival mechanics work across the entire game. This update is also the point where Ghoul RE reopens to the public and begins evolving directly with player feedback instead of staying locked behind closed testing.
Everything here is still being polished, but the core systems are already set and they change the game in big ways.
Subvariants – A New Layer of Progression
Both CCGs and Ghouls are getting Subvariants.
Think of subvariants as advanced versions of your base class. Once unlocked, they add:
- New abilities
- Passive buffs
- Stat boosts
- Unique cosmetics
At launch, there will be four subvariant types, and each one reshapes how your character plays. These are not minor upgrades. They are full build-defining systems.
Arata Upgrades
Arata users like Joker and Proto are getting their own upgrade trees.
These upgrades introduce:
- New passives
- New combat abilities
- Movement buffs
- Cosmetic upgrades
For example, Joker is gaining lightning-style dash abilities and speed bonuses that directly scale with your health choices. These upgrades push Arata builds into much more specialized and aggressive playstyles.
Quest Board Rework
Quest boards are being redesigned into Faction Contract Boards.
These boards now:
- Offer new mission types
- Drop exclusive chests and rewards
- Tie directly into subvariants and Ward 11 content
Your faction will actually matter now, and contracts will play a much larger role in how you farm and progress.
Ward 11 – New Endgame Map
Ward 11 is a full-sized map, comparable to Ward 20. It introduces multiple new zones and is designed to host most of the new progression systems.
Ward 11 also becomes the new home for reworked survival mechanics and advanced build systems.
Reworked Permadeath System
The permadeath system has been redesigned and moved primarily into Ward 11.
The new version is far less punishing:
- You must die three times before permanent death triggers
- You can recover lost lives
- You can safely test builds without instant account loss
This gives players space to experiment while still keeping the tension that makes Ghoul RE unique.
Mastery Skill Trees
Every playstyle is getting Mastery Trees.
These unlock:
- New abilities
- New passive effects
- New combo routes
- Variant mechanics based on stats and conditions
This system massively expands build creativity and allows both Ghouls and CCGs to specialize deeply instead of following one meta route.
Clans Are Becoming Build-Relevant
Clans are no longer just cosmetic or roleplay groups.
They will:
- Provide stat buffs
- Support specific build paths
- Unlock potential new abilities in future updates
Your clan choice will start shaping your entire character progression.
New Class (Teased)
A brand-new class is being prepared but is being kept secret for now. It will be part of the Ward 11 progression loop and likely tied to the new mastery and subvariant systems.
This update is essentially Ghoul RE’s relaunch. Ward 11, mastery trees, subvariants, and clan reworks reshape progression, survival, and builds into something much deeper and more flexible.
