The latest Dusty Trip update adds some interesting mechanics and a few experimental changes that slightly shift how the game feels. While nothing here completely changes gameplay, a few additions—especially the Orbital Cannon and Gun Shop—are worth paying attention to.
New Garage Access
There’s now a garage icon on the screen.
- You can open the garage directly by clicking it
- It’s currently AB testing, so not everyone will see it
- Makes access faster compared to older methods
New Door Control System
A small but noticeable change:
- Previously: move mouse left/right to open doors
- Now: often requires up/down movement
From testing, it feels a bit inconsistent:
- Sometimes both directions work
- Sometimes only up/down works
It’s not a major gameplay change, but it does take a bit of getting used to.
Barbed Wire Fence
This is a new placeable item that adds a bit of strategy.
How it works:
- Press F to pick up
- Left click to place
What it does:
- Damages enemies
- Slows them down
- Also damages you if you walk through it
Real use:
It’s not strong for killing, but it’s actually useful for:
- Crowd control
- Slowing mutants while you reposition or shoot
Think of it more as a defensive tool rather than a weapon.
New Item Highlight System
A simple quality-of-life change:
- Items now get highlighted when you hover over them
- Shows the item name clearly
This makes looting faster and cleaner, especially in chaotic situations.
Orbital Cannon (Gamepass Item)
This is easily the most interesting addition.
How it works:
- Needs to be charged before firing
- Has only one shot
- Creates two explosions
What actually happens:
- First explosion:
- Slows enemies
- Does minor damage
- Second explosion:
- Deals the real damage
- Can wipe groups if they stay inside
The catch:
- Enemies can run out of the area
- Timing and placement matter a lot
Honest take:
It’s powerful, but not easy to use.
Best used when enemies are grouped or stuck.
New Gun Shop (Major Addition)
A new structure now appears during runs.
Location:
- Around 2500m distance
What you’ll find:
- Weapons
- Ammo
- Random loot
Each shop is slightly different, so it adds some variety to runs.
Why it matters:
- Gives a mid-run upgrade opportunity
- Can change your run depending on what you find
This update feels more like a foundation update rather than a massive content drop.
- Orbital Cannon is fun but situational
- Barbed wire adds small tactical depth
- Gun Shop is the most impactful addition
- Door controls still feel a bit rough
Overall, it’s a solid update that improves variety, even if some features still need polish.
