Dead Rails has finally received a new update after a long wait. The Dead Rails Biomes Update may be small, but it introduces something fresh: new biomes. The developers also said they’ll be updating the game every two weeks now, so this could just be the beginning of bigger things.
What Changed in This Dead Rails Biomes Update?
- No new classes yet
- No new trains
- Weekly challenges are mostly the same
- The big change: new biomes
- Rumors of a new spear weapon (not confirmed yet)
So, the main thing players will notice right now is the new areas you travel through.
The New Biomes
When traveling, you’ll now come across different looking zones:
- Orange Biome (“Carrot Biome”) – Sandy desert with rocks scattered around.
- Red Biome (“Tomato Biome”) – Darker, volcanic-style land with a more intense color palette.
You’ll know when you’re entering one of these because you’ll see a bright line on the horizon before crossing over.
What’s Inside the Biomes?
The biomes don’t change gameplay much yet, but they do add atmosphere:
Flaming Cacti – These are new burning cactus plants. They light up the area, but you can walk through them without issue.
Rocks & Terrain – Some new volcanic-looking rocks and sandy textures, though most are decoration for now.
Outlaw Camps – Camps inside biomes look cooler at night with the new lighting.
Overall, these areas are more about visuals and mood than new mechanics.
Weapons & Loot
Loot remains mostly the same: revolvers, rifles, shotguns, ammo, and scrap.
Players are talking about a spear weapon that may have been added, but so far, no one has been able to actually find it.
Better Lighting
A nice surprise in this update is the improved lighting system. Torches, fire, and moonlight look brighter and more realistic. At night, everything feels darker and more intense, making zombie ambushes scarier and the train atmosphere cooler.
This update is small, but it’s important. Dead Rails has been quiet for a long time, and seeing new content means the developers are still working on it.
Right now, the new biomes are mostly for visuals—they don’t really change gameplay. But if updates keep coming, future biomes could bring actual mechanics, like snow slowing your movement or deserts draining fuel faster.
For now, hop back on your train and check out the new carrot and tomato zones. It’s not a huge update, but it’s a good sign that bigger things are on the way.
