The release of Verse 3: Chapter 1 – Duskguard introduces the long-awaited Authority Origin, a faction-based origin that places your character inside the military machine of the Central Authority. It comes with new progression mechanics, exclusive equipment, and a unique rank-based mission system — but also its own set of restrictions and quirks.
How to Unlock the Authority Origin
You can unlock the Authority Ensign origin by meeting either of the following conditions:
1. Defeat Titus
Beat the boss Titus on any slot to permanently unlock the origin.
Once done, the Authority Origin becomes available to any new characters on your account.
2. Reach Hero Reputation with the Authority
Build your standing with the Central Authority until you achieve Hero-tier reputation.
This also unlocks the origin option for new characters.
If you’ve already beaten Titus before, your future characters will automatically have access to the Authority Origin.
Starting Out as Authority
When you pick the Authority Origin, you’ll spawn at Port Merit — the lower docks of Fort Merit, the main base for the Central Authority.
Important:
Some players are currently spawning at Miners Landing instead due to a bug. Just reset once and you’ll be placed properly at Fort Merit.
Initial Setup – First Missions
Talk to the Drill Sergeant
He explains the structure of the Authority and introduces key concepts like divisions, missions, and ranks.
Meet Captain Trrist
He serves as your mission commander.
Choose “Solo Operation” to begin your progression.
This is the beginning of the Authority’s military progression system. Instead of job boards, you’ll receive missions directly from commanding officers like Trrist.
Progression System – Ranks and Divisions
Authority progression is built on military ranks. You earn rank by completing Authority missions and then use your rank to unlock further responsibilities.
- Do missions → Gain rank → Access divisions
- Divisions grant specialized missions, abilities, and access to exclusive content.
Known Divisions (so far):
- Shock Corps – Considered the flashiest and most popular division
- Other divisions are currently unnamed but offer unique mission trees and progression paths
Each division has its own Captain NPC who you report to after ranking up.
Authority Equipment Perks
One major advantage of joining the Authority is equipment bypassing:
As long as you’re part of the Authority, you can equip Authority-related weapons and armor regardless of your stats.
For example:
- Equip the Authority Helmet with no Fortitude
- Use Authority Spear, Rifle, or Punishment even if you lack the stat requirements
This makes Authority extremely useful for early-game builds or hybrid loadouts.
Exclusive Weapons & Items
Some unique Authority-related weapons and gear are confirmed, while others are still hidden or unobtainable.
Known Items:
Authority Helmet – No requirement if you’re in Authority
Mug Weapon – Found at the Fort Merit bar; counts as a light weapon (40 Light required outside Authority)
Authority Shield – Located in the armory
Unknown Dual Swords – Currently unobtainable but seen in NPC hands
Cheers System:
At the bar, players can “cheer” with drinks, presumably for roleplay or stat boosts
Authority Missions – What to Expect
Missions are timed operations that grant XP and rank progress.
Example Mission: Hostage Rescue
Starts from Captain Trrist or squad interface
Objective: Locate and retrieve a hostage from enemy territory (ex: Miners Landing)
Features:
- 30-minute timer
- Can be done solo or with squad
- Objective marker will appear on your map
- Expect combat with hostile factions (like Blacksteel Pirates or Voidwalkers)
- Return the hostage alive to complete the mission and gain rewards
Note: Not all objectives are marked clearly — some require actual searching in the mission zone.
Authority Talents – What We Know So Far
Authority introduces a set of exclusive talents with a new card rarity color (dark green).
Example Leaked Talent: Ashes of Life
This is likely a Lifeweave talent, leaked accidentally
It is tagged as “Advanced” and references roots of life and regenerative power
Tied to potential upcoming Lifeweave update or progression tree
Other Authority Talents:
One known talent acts as a built-in Dazing Finisher with a multi-hit animation
Most are likely tied to either rank progression or powering up as an Authority Origin
Authority Origin Limitations
While the origin is full of content, there are some downsides and bugs to be aware of:
1. Guild Restrictions
You are locked into the system-origin guild
You cannot join a custom guild, create a base, or farm guild points
Not ideal for players focused on gank slots or PvP guild wars
2. Territorial Restrictions
If you stay outside Fort Merit for more than 5 minutes, guards will hunt you down
If killed, you are returned to Fort Merit automatically
This system enforces the idea that you’re always “on-duty” as a soldier of the Authority.
Updated Movement System (Verse 3 Overview)
The Duskguard update also includes major movement and animation changes, affecting all players:
Jumping and dashing animations now have visual flair (such as arm-flailing when falling)
Air dash can now lead directly into a slide
Slight FOV shift while sprinting (can be turned off)
Shift-lock sprinting now points your character toward movement direction (not camera)
These changes improve immersion but may feel unfamiliar for returning players.
