ABYSS is one of those Roblox games that feels brutally slow at the start, especially if you don’t know what the game actually wants you to do. Most players quit early because money feels impossible to make and progression feels unclear. The truth is, the early game is only hard if you stay in the wrong places for too long or buy things in the wrong order.

This guide walks you from your first spawn all the way to endgame, focusing on money efficiency, gear order, and where you should actually be fishing at each stage.

Step 1: Do the Kraken Quests First (No Exceptions)

When you first spawn into ABYSS, your first stop should always be the Kraken NPC. His questline is the backbone of early progression.

Complete all seven Kraken quests. These will have you:

  • Catch specific fish
  • Open geodes
  • Buy early tubes
  • Buy early harpoon guns

This does three important things at once. It teaches you the game’s systems, unlocks better early equipment, and gives you a solid chunk of starting money. Skipping these quests or delaying them is one of the biggest mistakes new players make.

While doing Kraken quests, you should also be doing nearby NPC quests at the same time. Speak to Mr. Black and the other NPCs on the starting island. Their quests are simple and overlap naturally with what you’re already doing, so there’s no reason not to stack them.

At this stage, also start the Teleporter Quest from the Scientist. You just need to walk around the island and collect five items like the toilet, toilet paper, antennas, and similar objects. Everything is on the same island, and it takes only a few minutes. Unlocking teleporters early saves you a massive amount of time later.

By the end of this phase, you should have:

  • The Advanced Harpoon Gun
  • The Puffer Fish Tank
  • A small but reliable money base

Step 2: Do the Diver Quests (After You Get the Puffer Fish Tank)

Behind the boat area, you’ll find a Diver NPC who gives delivery quests using a submarine. These quests pay extremely well for early game, but only if you already have the Puffer Fish Tank.

Without it, your oxygen is too low and the quests become frustrating. With it, you can complete several deliveries easily and walk away with $2,000–$3,000 early on.

You won’t be able to finish all diver quests yet, and that’s fine. Do as many as your oxygen allows, then move on. At this point, there is no reason to stay on the starting island anymore.

Step 3: Leave the Starting Area and Go to Ancient Sands

Once Kraken quests are done, leave immediately. Staying in the starter biome is a money trap.

Your next destination is the Ancient Sands biome. This is where real progression begins.

Here, talk to Marcus, who introduces new quests and sells crucial upgrades. You should aim to buy two things as soon as possible:

  • The Boat
  • The Crossbow

Together, these cost about $10,000. Always buy the boat first. It opens movement options and makes oxygen management far easier.

If you’re short on money, don’t wander randomly. Stand near Ancient Sands and farm the small fish in shallow areas. They’re easy to catch with the Advanced Harpoon Gun and sell consistently.

Also note the archway nearby. Under it is Jeff’s Shop, which lets you regenerate health and oxygen. This spot is extremely important while grinding Ancient Sands.

Step 4: Save for the Wasted Gun (First Major Power Spike)

Once you’re comfortable in Ancient Sands, your next major goal is $17,500 for the Wasted Gun.

This is where the game starts to open up.

The Wasted Gun has:

  • Much higher damage
  • Faster farming speed
  • Better efficiency on larger fish

With this weapon, you can start catching fish that were previously inefficient or impossible. This dramatically increases your income.

After buying it, focus your farming in higher-value fish zones within Ancient Sands and nearby areas. Avoid wasting time on low-value fish unless they have strong mutations.

Step 5: Understand Mutations (This Is How You Actually Make Money)

In ABYSS, mutations matter more than size.

A small fish with a strong mutation is often worth more than a massive fish with none. The best mutation in the game is Abyss, followed closely by:

  • Angelic
  • Shadow
  • Rooted

Fish without mutations are usually not worth your time unless you’re farming very early. From this point forward, always prioritize mutation quality over everything else.

This is where most of your money will come from.

Step 6: Boat Tube → Spirit Route Setup

Stick with the Boat Tube. Do not buy Zipline Tube early. It’s inefficient and slows progression unless you already know what you’re doing.

Once you’re stable, return to the Forgotten Deep, stock up on oxygen tanks, and prepare for the endgame biome: Spirit Route.

Spirit Route is harsh. With a Boat Tube, you will lose oxygen rapidly. That’s expected. Your goal is not to farm here yet, but to reach the oxygen pocket and unlock the teleporter.

Once inside the safe room, oxygen stops draining and you can teleport freely.

Step 7: Buy the Mag Gun (Endgame Weapon Entry)

Your next purchase is the Mag Gun, costing $47,500.

This weapon lets you:

  • Catch large fish consistently
  • Prepare for Spirit Route farming
  • Scale toward late-game content

Yes, it’s expensive, but it’s absolutely achievable with the Wasted Gun if you focus on mutated fish.

After the Mag Gun, save $57,000 for the Oxy Tube. This is the single most important survival upgrade in the game.

Once you have the Oxy Tube, you are officially endgame-ready.

Step 8: Endgame Gear (What You Actually Need)

At true endgame, you’ll see expensive options like:

  • Lost Spirit Tube
  • Ruin Tube
  • Bath Tube
  • Lost Spirit Gun
  • Ruined Gun
  • Plunger Gun

You do not need all of these.

The Lost Spirit Tube and Lost Spirit Gun are more than enough to prepare for future updates. The Ruined and Plunger weapons are technically stronger, but the difference is not mandatory for progression.

Do not bankrupt yourself chasing perfect gear unless you enjoy min-maxing.

Best Endgame Money Method: Whale Farming

In Spirit Route, whales are the highest-value fish in the game.

The fastest way to farm them is server hopping. Join a server, check for whales, farm if they exist, then hop again if they don’t. When whales aren’t spawning, fall back on mutated fish farming.

Never farm Spirit Route seriously without:

  • Oxy Tube
  • Oxygen tanks
  • At least the Mag Gun

Trying earlier will just kill you repeatedly.

ABYSS rewards knowledge more than grind. If you move to the right biome at the right time and buy gear in the correct order, the game becomes smooth instead of frustrating.

Don’t stay in starter areas too long.
Don’t buy flashy gear early.
Don’t ignore mutations.

Follow the progression path, and ABYSS goes from painful to addictive very quickly.
