Another Deepwoken weekly update is here, and this one actually brings a surprising amount of new content and quality-of-life changes.

The biggest addition is the Palace Tachi, a new Medium katana with a strong connection to the Contractor Oath. We also have auto-aim turrets protecting towns, a change to Blindseer cosmetics, new equipment, improved social features, camera fixes, and several balance changes.

There are also some interesting hints about the upcoming Deepwoken: Across the Boundary update, so there’s plenty to talk about.

New Palace Tachi Weapon

The biggest addition in this update is the Palace Tachi, a new Medium weapon in the katana category.

The weapon originates from the Ministry, which is reflected heavily in its design. The blade has a clean appearance with detailed textures and Ministry-themed motifs.

But the Palace Tachi isn’t just a cosmetic addition. It also has some interesting synergy with Contractor builds.

The weapon can use enchants, meaning you have plenty of flexibility when building around it.

Palace Tachi Gameplay

The basic attacks and animations of the Palace Tachi aren’t particularly unusual.

In fact, it has slightly less armor penetration than some other katana options.

However, the weapon makes up for that with its critical attack.

The standing critical is particularly useful for catching players who are trying to roll away or reposition.

When you activate the critical, the character pulls back with a large particle effect before lunging toward the opponent.

There’s also a delayed hit, making the attack useful for catching opponents from around mid-range.

The attack is fairly well telegraphed visually, so experienced players should be able to recognize what’s coming, but it can still be useful for catching someone at the right moment.

Thread Ripper Talent

The Palace Tachi also comes with a talent called Thread Ripper.

This talent is designed to work especially well with Contractor builds.

When your opponent is already at low HP, Thread Ripper allows you to eviscerate and execute them.

In other words, once you’ve brought an enemy down far enough, you can finish them off with the talent instead of giving them another chance to recover.

This makes the Palace Tachi particularly interesting for aggressive Contractor setups.

Palace Tachi Armor Synergy

Because the Palace Tachi counts as a katana, you have plenty of flexibility when choosing your armor.

You can also use Paired Soul to increase your damage further.

That means you aren’t forced into a specific armor setup just because you’re using the Palace Tachi.

If you’re already running a Contractor build, the weapon is worth experimenting with because its critical and Thread Ripper talent fit the playstyle very naturally.

Where to Get the Palace Tachi

If you’re looking to farm the new weapon, the Palace Tachi was found in the Crypt of the Unbroken.

This also makes sense thematically because of the weapon’s connection to the Ministry.

So, if you want to add the new katana to your collection, the Crypt of the Unbroken is the place to start farming.

New Auto-Aim Turrets in Towns

The update also introduces auto-aim turrets in specific areas.

These turrets are designed to prevent lawbreaking and fighting in protected locations such as towns.

Unlike normal structures, the turrets cannot be destroyed.

If an enemy tries to start fighting in one of these protected areas, the turrets will automatically target them.

This effectively turns certain towns into much safer zones.

How the New Turrets Affect Ganking

The biggest question is how much this will change PvP around towns.

If players can no longer freely gank each other inside protected areas without getting targeted by the turrets, towns should become considerably safer.

I think the biggest benefit will probably be for newer players.

Getting attacked while you’re simply trying to learn the game or complete basic objectives can be frustrating, so having protected areas should give new players somewhere to regroup without constantly worrying about another player attacking them.

There are also multiple turret variants depending on the location.

We’ll have to see how players adapt to them and whether they significantly reduce town ganks.

Blindseer No Longer Requires a Blindfold

One of the smaller changes in this patch is actually something players have wanted for a long time.

Previously, Blindseer characters were automatically given a blindfold cosmetic.

While it fit the theme of the Oath, it also limited customization options.

With this update, you are no longer forced to wear the blindfold.

The change appears to be cosmetic only, so it doesn’t fundamentally alter how the Oath works.

You simply have more freedom over your character’s appearance.

New Glass Dancer Shin Wraps

A new piece of equipment has also been added: the Glass Dancer Shin Wraps.

These are leg accessories based on the existing Glass Dancer wraps.

They can work with a wide variety of character designs, and because the default color is white, they’re easy to dye into whatever color matches your build.

The original Glass Dancer wraps have also received additional styles.

Instead of simply being different color variations, some of the new styles are position-based, meaning you can adjust how they appear on your character.

It’s a small addition, but it gives players more freedom when putting together their outfits.

New Star Kindred Visual for Kieran

Star Kindred players also received a new visual option.

If you’re using the Kieran setup and have the relevant bat race, you’ll now see bat wings instead of the standard Star Kindred angel wings.

The wings function exactly like the normal visuals from a gameplay perspective.

This is purely a cosmetic change.

You can also modify the appearance with dyes, making it easier to match the wings with your character’s overall color scheme.

Hopefully, we get more race-specific Oath visuals like this in future updates because these small customization options can make characters feel much more personal.

Steel Scale Dusters Get a New Talent

The Steel Scale Dusters, which were added recently, have received another improvement.

They now have access to a new talent called Swift Scale.

Swift Scale improves Fang and Coil Sweep Kick, making the attack:

  • Faster
  • Longer ranged
  • Less punishable when it misses

This makes the weapon’s critical attack considerably more useful during combat.

The change should make the Steel Scale Dusters feel more complete, especially for players who weren’t getting much value from their original critical.

New Friends and Social Features

Deepwoken has also received a useful social feature.

When you open the game, you’ll now be able to see your Roblox friends list directly within Deepwoken.

You can check whether your friends are currently playing, see which Luminant they’re in, and potentially join them.

You can also invite friends to play Deepwoken.

It’s a relatively simple addition, but it makes playing with friends much easier because you don’t have to constantly leave the game or manually check Roblox to see who’s online.

Character Reset Cooldown Removed

Another quality-of-life change is the removal of the character reset cooldown.

You can now reset back to your base without having to wait for the previous cooldown.

There are still some drawbacks, though.

When you reset:

  • Temporary trinkets are removed.
  • Some Hunger is lost.
  • Some Thirst is lost.

Still, for players who frequently need to return to their base, removing the cooldown makes the process much more convenient.

Camera Clipping Improvements

The camera has also received a pretty significant improvement.

Previously, standing too close to a wall or other obstacle could cause the camera to clip through the environment and completely ruin your view.

The new system automatically adjusts the camera when you’re close to obstacles.

It can move the camera backward or zoom it in to prevent it from clipping through walls.

This is one of those changes that might seem small on paper but makes the game much more comfortable to play.

Humanoid NPC Auto-Parry Nerf

The update also addresses an issue with humanoid NPCs.

For some time, humanoid enemies had been auto-parrying far too many attacks, making certain encounters much more frustrating than they should have been.

The new patch tones down their auto-parry behavior.

This should make these enemies feel more natural to fight instead of constantly parrying almost everything you throw at them.

It’s a welcome change, especially for players who have been frustrated by the previous behavior.

Gale Gets Another Nerf

Unfortunately for Gale users, the nerfs continue.

The small wind slash that appears after After Cut no longer applies its additional stun.

The extra stun has been completely removed.

It’s a relatively small change compared to some of the larger balance adjustments, but it’s another reduction to Gale’s overall combo potential.

If you’re a Gale main, you’ll probably notice the change when trying to extend certain combos.

Paralytic Dust Vent Bell Cheese Removed

The patch also targets a cheesy interaction involving the Paralytic Dust Vent Bell.

Previously, players could use certain setups to keep opponents frozen after they recovered from the initial stun.

This allowed for extremely difficult-to-escape combos.

That interaction has now been removed.

You can no longer be bottom-frozen after waking up from the stun in the same way.

It’s another step toward reducing some of the more frustrating combo setups in PvP.

Across the Boundary Teasers

There’s also some interesting information surrounding the upcoming Across the Boundary update.

The early teasers suggest that the update could be much larger than some players originally expected.

The boundary appears to stretch beneath Lumen and may contain multiple different biomes.

Some of the teased environments include green areas filled with plants and toxic-looking fumes.

There has also been speculation about additional content connected to Etris, based on some of the designs shown by contributors.

Another teaser showed what appears to be a lava-filled environment featuring a strange animal that looks somewhat like an anteater mixed with a dog or monster.

Nothing beyond the teased information should be treated as confirmed, but it definitely gives players plenty to speculate about.
