When a brand-new anime tower defense game launches, everyone wants the same thing: the best team possible. The problem is that during the first few days, opinions are all over the place. One player says a unit is broken, another says it’s overrated, and before you know it, you’ve spent all your rerolls on a character that barely makes your team.
After looking at how each unit performs in actual gameplay, it’s much easier to separate the true meta picks from the average ones. Some characters bring incredible DPS, while others earn their spot because of crowd control, buffs, or unique mechanics that help your entire team perform better.
This guide ranks every important unit currently available in Anime Expeditions while also explaining what makes each one worth using. Instead of only looking at raw damage, we’ll also cover summoners, supports, stall units, and farming characters so you know exactly which units deserve your resources.

S+ Tier Units
Megumi (Shadow Divine)
Megumi is currently the strongest overall character in Anime Expeditions.
Calling him just a DPS unit doesn’t really do him justice because he fills almost every role at once.
His kit includes:
- Multiple summons
- Powerful AoE attacks
- Stuns
- Magic buffs
- Enemy rewind ability
- Excellent sustained damage
His biggest strength is Mahoraga. Instead of staying in one place, Mahoraga teleports around the battlefield, helping stop enemies that leak through your defenses.
Megumi also summons Nue for additional crowd control and Wolves for even more damage, making him one of the safest investments in the game.
Why He’s Meta
- Highest overall DPS
- Incredible utility
- Strong crowd control
- Great scaling into late game
- Fits nearly every team
Gowther
Gowther brings much more than simple damage.
Every few seconds he marks the strongest enemy inside his range, increasing the damage that enemy takes. Once defeated, that marked enemy becomes one of Gowther’s summons, adding even more pressure to future waves.
He also has an ability that rewinds enemies, making him useful for difficult boss stages.
Strengths
- High DPS
- Enemy debuff
- Summons
- Crowd control
- Excellent utility
He’s easily one of the strongest Mythics available right now.
Yuta
Yuta is one of the highest damage dealers currently available.
His attacks constantly apply Bleed, and once enough stacks build up, he summons additional spirits that increase his damage output even further.
He also has a follow-up attack mechanic that copies the attack area of nearby allies, allowing him to hit enemies much more efficiently.
Best Features
- Massive Bleed damage
- Extra summons
- Strong follow-up attacks
- Excellent boss killer
Kenpachi
Kenpachi feels incredibly aggressive.
Everything in his kit revolves around staying in combat and constantly punishing nearby enemies.
His passive abilities include:
- Damage aura
- Anti-stun mechanic
- Follow-up attacks
- Dismember status effect
- Rage mode after enough eliminations
Since Dismember slows enemies, Kenpachi also doubles as a useful crowd-control unit while maintaining fantastic DPS.
Inumaki
If your team needs crowd control, Inumaki is probably the best support available.
Every attack slows enemies, and opponents entering his range are briefly stunned.
Once evolved with his personal equipment, his slowing effect becomes dramatically stronger.
Why Everyone Uses Him
- Reliable slow
- Constant crowd control
- Great support in every game mode
- Excellent scaling after evolution
S Tier Units
These characters aren’t quite as game-changing as the S+ tier, but they’re still fantastic additions to almost every roster.
Frieren
Frieren focuses entirely on magical damage.
Instead of relying on summons or crowd control, she builds charge and unleashes powerful spells as follow-up attacks.
She also becomes Full AoE before evolution, making story progression much smoother.
Strengths
- Strong magic DPS
- Full AoE attacks
- Great wave clear
- Reliable throughout every stage
Choso
Choso is one of the strongest Bleed units currently available.
Every attack places Crimson Marks on enemies.
When those marks explode, they:
- Deal bonus damage
- Leave blood pools behind
- Damage enemies walking through them
His Blood Laser ability is especially effective against bosses thanks to its continuous damage.
Toy Maker
Toy Maker is unlike any other unit.
She doesn’t attack enemies herself.
Instead, she constantly creates powerful toy summons that fight for her.
Each upgrade improves those summons by increasing their stats, and every fifth summon becomes a much stronger mutated version.
She’s especially valuable on maps with multiple lanes because her summons naturally spread out to defend different paths.
Magic Buffer
This support specializes in increasing the damage of magical units.
Each upgrade boosts nearby magic characters, eventually providing around a 30% damage increase.
If your team includes Megumi or Frieren, this support is almost always worth bringing.
Physical Buffer
The physical version works exactly the same way.
Instead of buffing magic users, it increases the damage dealt by physical attackers.
Which one you use depends entirely on your team composition.
A Tier Units
Ichigo
Although difficult to obtain from raids, Ichigo performs fairly well.
His passive lets him gradually become stronger as he fights different enemy types.
He also creates clones that:
- Deal extra damage
- Help avoid debuffs
- Increase his overall survivability
He’s a fun character, although other Mythics outperform him later on.
Lady Giant
Lady Giant is a straightforward DPS character with a few extra tricks.
She creates stone walls along the path while attacking and enters a giant transformation that greatly boosts her damage.
She also gains additional attacks after collecting enough rock fragments.
Overall, she’s a dependable damage dealer without reaching top-tier status.
Rukia
Rukia’s role is simple.
She freezes enemies.
Although freeze isn’t always as valuable as slowing, it can completely stop dangerous enemies during difficult waves.
She’s one of the better crowd-control supports currently available.
Ice Mage
Despite only being an Epic unit, Ice Mage provides surprisingly strong slowing effects.
His attacks apply a large movement reduction with excellent uptime, making him a great budget support until you obtain stronger Mythics.
B Tier Units
Doflamingo
Doflamingo performs well during the early game.
His Cocoon mechanic stuns enemies after enough attacks while also giving nearby allies additional follow-up attacks.
Although useful early, his overall damage falls behind stronger Mythics.
Gabimaru
Gabimaru revolves entirely around Burn.
Instead of creating Burn stacks himself, he upgrades existing Burn effects into stronger versions.
He’s best paired with other Burn units rather than used alone.
Flame Emperor
Flame Emperor’s entire identity is applying Burn.
Unfortunately, Burn teams aren’t particularly dominant in the current release meta, limiting his usefulness.
He’s still playable but far from essential.
True Saint (Free Login Unit)
Every new player receives True Saint early.
She focuses on critical hits while stealing a percentage of nearby allies’ damage.
Although the concept sounds powerful, she actually borrows damage instead of creating additional damage, making her weaker than many players initially expected.
She’s still useful for beginners because evolving her is relatively easy.
Best Farming Units
Economy matters just as much as damage.
The faster you generate money, the quicker your strongest units reach maximum upgrades.
Stone Alchemist (Zenqu)
Currently considered the best farming character.
He produces more money than any other economy unit, allowing your team to reach expensive upgrades much sooner.
If you have him, there’s very little reason to use another farmer.
Ramen Guy
Ramen Guy remains an excellent alternative.
While he doesn’t earn quite as much cash as Stone Alchemist, he’s still one of the best economy characters available.
Best Summoner Units
If you enjoy summon-focused teams, these are the strongest options:
- Megumi
- Gowther
- Yuta
- Toy Maker
Each one creates additional allies that either deal damage, tank enemies, or provide valuable utility throughout a match.
Best Support Units
Support units can dramatically increase your team’s overall performance.
Crowd Control
- Inumaki
- Rukia
- Ice Mage
- Kenpachi
Damage Buffers
- Magic Buffer
- Physical Buffer
- Megumi (secondary support)
Best DPS Units
If raw damage is your priority, these are the current standouts:
- Megumi
- Gowther
- Yuta
- Kenpachi
- Frieren
- Choso
These characters consistently perform well in Story, Raids, Expeditions, and future late-game content.
Anime Expeditions already has a surprisingly diverse meta despite only recently entering Early Access. While Megumi comfortably sits at the top thanks to his incredible combination of summons, damage, buffs, and crowd control, units like Gowther, Yuta, and Kenpachi prove that there are multiple ways to build a powerful team.
Support characters shouldn’t be ignored either. Inumaki’s slowing abilities and the Magic and Physical Buffers can increase your overall damage far more than simply replacing one DPS with another attacker.
If you’re rerolling, prioritize one of the top Mythic carries first, then build around them with strong support and farming units. That approach will give you the smoothest progression through every piece of content currently available in Anime Expeditions while keeping your team ready for future updates.
