Catching Critters is one of those relaxing side activities that you’ll probably end up doing without even realizing it. As you explore the world of Moonlight Peaks, you’ll spot butterflies, insects, and other small creatures flying or crawling around different areas. Besides helping complete your Critter collection, they can also be sold for extra Gold, making them a nice source of income while exploring.
The only catch is that you won’t be able to capture them right away.
Here’s everything you need to know.
How to Unlock the Net
Before you can catch any Critters, you’ll first need to unlock the Net.
You receive it during the main story after reaching the Misty Shores area. Shortly after arriving, you’ll meet Death, who asks for your help collecting wandering Soul Blobs.
As part of this quest, Death gives you the Net.
Once it’s in your inventory, you can use it to catch both Soul Blobs and regular Critters throughout the world.
How to Catch Critters
Using the Net is simple, but timing is important.
Here’s how it works:
Find a Critter
As you explore forests, fields, and other outdoor areas, keep an eye out for small creatures flying or moving around.
Different locations often have different Critters, so it’s worth exploring every region.
Equip Your Net
Open your tool wheel and select the Net before approaching a Critter.
Having it ready means you can react quickly before the creature flies away.
Get Close Carefully
Walk toward the Critter without rushing too much.
If you scare it too early, it will begin flying away, forcing you to chase it.
Swing the Net
Once you’re close enough, use the Net to make a quick swipe.
If your timing and positioning are right, the Critter will be captured and automatically added to your inventory.
Tips for Catching Fast Critters
Not every Critter is easy to catch.
Some move much faster than others and can be frustrating if you simply chase them in open areas.
Here are a few tricks that make catching them much easier:
- Chase them toward rocks, trees, or fences to limit their escape routes.
- Wait for them to turn around before swinging your Net.
- Don’t keep chasing forever—if you pursue a Critter for too long, it can disappear completely.
- Move patiently instead of sprinting after every insect you see.
A little patience usually works much better than trying to outrun them.
Critters Change With the Seasons
One interesting feature in Moonlight Peaks is that not every Critter is available all the time.
Some species only appear during:
- Certain seasons
- Specific weather conditions
- Particular locations
Because of this, it’s worth carrying your Net whenever you’re exploring. You never know when you’ll come across a Critter you haven’t collected before.
Why You Should Catch Critters
While catching Critters is fun on its own, there are several reasons to make it part of your nightly routine.
Critters can be used to:
- Expand your Critter collection.
- Earn extra Gold by selling duplicates.
- Discover seasonal wildlife throughout the world.
- Make exploration more rewarding.
If you’re already traveling between quests or gathering resources, taking a few extra seconds to catch nearby Critters is almost always worth it.
Unlocking the Net from Death is the first step toward becoming a successful Critter collector in Moonlight Peaks. After that, all you need to do is explore, keep an eye out for wildlife, and time your Net swings carefully.
Some Critters are easy to catch, while others require a bit more patience, but collecting them is a fun way to earn extra Coins and experience even more of the game’s charming world.
