Fishing is one of the first side activities you’ll unlock in Moonlight Peaks, and it’s well worth taking the time to learn. Fish can be cooked into meals that restore energy, sold for extra Gold, or saved for future recipes and quests. While the fishing system is simple, knowing how it works will help you catch fish much more consistently.
Here’s everything you need to know.
How to Get the Fishing Rod
You won’t start the game with a Fishing Rod. Instead, you’ll unlock it shortly after exploring beyond the main town.
Head to Moonlit Pines, the area located west of the Town Hall where Luna’s Farm is found. The first time you enter from the southern entrance, a cutscene will automatically play with Noel.
During the conversation, Noel challenges you to a friendly fishing competition and hands you your very first Fishing Rod. This also begins the Outfish the Fisherman quest.
The good news is that you don’t need to complete this quest to keep the Fishing Rod. As soon as Noel gives it to you, you can start fishing anywhere suitable.
That said, it’s still worth finishing the challenge since it rewards you with Coins and gives you a chance to practice the fishing mechanics.
How to Fish in Moonlight Peaks
Once you have your Fishing Rod, you can fish in most lakes, rivers, and ponds around the map.
Here’s the basic process:
Find Fish
Look closely at the water for fish-shaped shadows swimming beneath the surface. These shadows indicate where fish are currently available.
If you don’t see any, try another nearby body of water or wait a little while for new fish to appear.
Cast Your Line
Equip the Fishing Rod and cast your line close to the fish.
Don’t worry if the fish immediately swim away when the bobber lands. They’ll calm down after a few seconds and return to normal behavior.
Get the Fish’s Attention
If the fish ignores your bait, slowly reel the line toward it.
Instead of holding the reel button continuously, try using short taps. Small movements tend to attract nearby fish more effectively.
Wait for the Bite
Once a fish turns toward your bait and starts following it, stop reeling.
Give the fish a moment to inspect the bait. Eventually, it will bite.
Reel It In
When the fishing float suddenly dips beneath the water, immediately reel in your line.
If you react quickly, you’ll successfully catch the fish.
Fishing Tips for Beginners
Fishing becomes much easier once you understand a few simple tricks:
- Cast your line close to fish shadows instead of randomly into the water.
- Don’t panic if fish scatter after your cast—they’ll come back after a few seconds.
- Use short taps while reeling instead of pulling the line continuously.
- Stop reeling once a fish starts following your bait.
- Reel in as soon as the float goes underwater to avoid missing the catch.
Why You Should Fish Early
Fishing is one of the easiest ways to earn extra resources during the early game.
Fresh fish can be:
- Cooked into meals that restore energy.
- Sold for additional Gold.
- Saved for future cooking recipes and quests.
If you’ve finished watering your crops and still have time before sunrise, spending the rest of the night fishing is a great way to make your time more productive.
Fishing in Moonlight Peaks is easy to learn but rewarding throughout the game. After unlocking the Fishing Rod from Noel in Moonlit Pines, all you need to do is find fish shadows, cast nearby, attract the fish with gentle reeling, and pull your line in once the bobber sinks.
Whether you’re looking for extra Gold or ingredients for cooking, it’s a relaxing activity that’s worth adding to your nightly routine.
