The Wave Quest is one of the more time-consuming challenges introduced during FishFest 2026. Unlike most quests that focus on catching specific fish, this one revolves around collecting multiple mutated versions of the Rock. The difficult part is not catching the Rock itself—it is obtaining every required mutation.

Many players waste hours fishing with the wrong setup and wonder why certain mutations never appear. The key to completing this quest efficiently is understanding which rods, relics, weather effects, and companions are tied to each mutation.

This guide breaks down every known method so you can farm the required Rock mutations as quickly as possible.

Best Location for Farming Rocks

Before worrying about mutations, you need a reliable source of Rocks.

Sanctum

The best location for this quest is Sanctum.

Sanctum consistently provides Rocks and makes the mutation grind much easier compared to most other fishing locations.

Because you will be catching hundreds of Rocks during this quest, having a location with reliable Rock rates is extremely important.

Best Bait

Use Garbage Bait whenever possible.

Garbage Bait increases the likelihood of catching unwanted items and low-value catches, which includes Rocks.

Many players make the mistake of using expensive bait that boosts rare fish spawns. For this quest, that actually slows your progress because you want Rocks, not rare fish.

FishFest Rod Mutations

Several Wave Quest mutations are directly tied to specific FishFest rods.

If you want these mutations, you must use the correct rod.

Changing bait, weather, or companions will not replace the rod requirement.

Splash Rock

Equip the Pool Noodle Rod.

Every Splash Rock must be obtained while fishing with this rod.

Tiki Rock

Equip the Tiki Rod.

No other rod can naturally generate the Tiki mutation.

Creamsicle Rock

Use the Creamsicle Rod.

This rod is required for all Creamsicle Rock catches.

Floatie Rock

Use the Floatie Rod.

Because the Floatie Rod has its own mutation system, it is the only reliable source of Floatie Rock.

Beach Ball Rock

Use the Beach Ball Rod.

If you need Beach Ball Rock specifically, switch to this rod before farming.

Star Shell Rock

Use the Star Shell Rod.

This mutation is linked directly to the Star Shell Rod passive.

Lemon Rock

Use the Lemonade Serenade Rod.

Players who do not own this rod will need to unlock it before they can obtain Lemon Rock.

FishFest Rod Farming Strategy

The biggest mistake players make is trying to obtain every rod-based mutation in a single session.

That is impossible because each mutation requires a different rod.

A much faster approach is:

  1. Stay at Sanctum.
  2. Equip Garbage Bait.
  3. Use one FishFest rod until its mutation drops.
  4. Switch to the next required rod.
  5. Repeat until all rod-exclusive mutations are complete.

This prevents wasted catches and keeps your farming organized.

Beach Relic Mutations

Several mutations come from the Beach Relic system rather than rods.

Beach Rock

Can be obtained while using a Beach Relic.

Tropical Rock

Can also be obtained through Beach Relic effects.

Paradise Rock

Another mutation tied to Beach Relic usage.

Obtaining Beach Relics

Beach Relics appear during Tidal Wave events around FishFest Island.

When waves hit the shoreline, various event items can wash ashore.

Keep an eye on the beach whenever a Tidal Wave event starts.

Collecting Beach Relics regularly is important because they are required for multiple Wave Quest mutations.

Tropical Sun Mutations

Some of the rarer mutations are connected to Tropical Sun weather.

Tanned Rock

This mutation becomes much easier to obtain during Tropical Sun weather.

Although still dependent on luck, the weather significantly improves your chances.

Super Tanned Rock

Super Tanned Rock is one of the rarest mutations required for the quest.

Many players spend more time farming this mutation than any other.

Even under ideal conditions, expect it to take multiple attempts.

Patience is important here.

Sun Hat Starfish Companion

One of the most useful tools for this quest is the Sun Hat Starfish companion.

Mutation Boost

This companion increases FishFest 2 mutation rates.

The boost applies to multiple event mutations and helps improve overall efficiency.

Important Limitation

The companion does not guarantee a specific mutation.

Many players misunderstand how it works.

The Sun Hat Starfish increases your chances of receiving mutations from the FishFest mutation pool, but it cannot force a particular result.

You still need luck to obtain the exact Rock mutation you need.

Best Usage

Use the companion when farming:

  • Tanned Rock
  • Super Tanned Rock
  • Sand Castled Rock
  • Various FishFest event mutations

The longer you grind, the more valuable the bonus becomes.

Sand Castled Rock

Sand Castled Rock is another FishFest mutation required for Wave Quest completion.

The easiest way to target this mutation is:

  • Fish at Sanctum
  • Use Garbage Bait
  • Equip Sun Hat Starfish
  • Continue farming during FishFest conditions

This mutation is usually easier to obtain than Super Tanned but can still take time depending on luck.

Complete Mutation Checklist

Rod-Based Mutations

  • Splash Rock — Pool Noodle Rod
  • Tiki Rock — Tiki Rod
  • Creamsicle Rock — Creamsicle Rod
  • Floatie Rock — Floatie Rod
  • Beach Ball Rock — Beach Ball Rod
  • Star Shell Rock — Star Shell Rod
  • Lemon Rock — Lemonade Serenade Rod

Beach Relic Mutations

  • Beach Rock
  • Tropical Rock
  • Paradise Rock

Weather and Companion Mutations

  • Tanned Rock
  • Super Tanned Rock
  • Sand Castled Rock
  • Other FishFest event mutations

Fastest Completion Route

If your goal is completing the Wave Quest as quickly as possible, follow this order.

Step One

Go to Sanctum.

Equip Garbage Bait.

Catch Rocks only.

Step Two

Complete every rod-exclusive mutation first.

Switch rods whenever you obtain the required mutation.

Step Three

Farm Beach Relics during Tidal Wave events.

Focus on:

  • Beach Rock
  • Tropical Rock
  • Paradise Rock

Step Four

Wait for Tropical Sun weather.

Equip the Sun Hat Starfish companion.

Farm:

  • Tanned Rock
  • Super Tanned Rock
  • Sand Castled Rock
  • Remaining FishFest mutations

This approach minimizes wasted catches and significantly reduces overall farming time.

The Wave Quest is essentially a mutation collection challenge disguised as a fishing quest. The actual Rock catches are easy—the difficult part is obtaining every required mutation efficiently.

The fastest strategy is to farm Rocks exclusively at Sanctum using Garbage Bait, then divide the grind into separate categories: rod mutations, Beach Relic mutations, and Tropical Sun mutations. By targeting each group individually instead of relying on random luck, you can complete the Wave Quest much faster and avoid wasting hours on ineffective setups.

For most players, Super Tanned Rock will likely be the final mutation they need, so save extra time for that grind and do not be discouraged if it takes multiple fishing sessions to appear.
