The Valentine update in Verse Piece added two new obtainable characters: Kisuke and Ulquiorra. Both are tied to the same event system, but they differ heavily in power, usefulness, and how worth they are to grind. If you’re jumping into the update, here’s exactly how to get them and which one you should prioritize first.
How to Unlock Kisuke & Ulquiorra
Both characters are obtained from the Cupid Merchant NPC, which you can find on Verse Island. This NPC is the main event shop and sells all the new Valentine items.
However, you cannot buy them with normal currency. The shop requires a special event currency called Hearts.
To earn Hearts, you need to complete mini quests. These quests appear in the heart icon menu and refresh roughly every 15 minutes, making them easy but somewhat time-gated. Because the missions rotate frequently, the fastest strategy is simply to check back often and complete them consistently rather than trying to grind everything at once.
Once you collect enough Hearts, you can exchange them for the required materials:
Kisuke requires a Scientist’s Cane.
Ulquiorra requires Feathered Wings.
These materials are bought directly from the Cupid Merchant using Hearts.
Event Accessories and Titles
The update also introduced several accessories and cosmetic titles alongside the two characters.
Among the accessories, one of the standout pieces is considered extremely strong for its stats and may currently rank among the best event accessories available. Because accessories often provide passive bonuses, they are worth picking up even if you’re mainly focused on characters.
Titles are purely cosmetic but are also obtainable through the same event shop.
Kisuke Moveset and Performance
Kisuke is designed as the more accessible character of the two. He is very easy to obtain compared to most high-tier characters, which makes him an excellent option for new or returning players.
His moveset is fairly balanced rather than flashy. The abilities are reliable but not extremely powerful, and they focus more on usability than raw damage output.
Because of how easy he is to unlock, Kisuke is best viewed as a strong starter event character rather than an endgame powerhouse.
Ulquiorra Moveset and Damage
Ulquiorra is significantly stronger and is clearly the highlight of the update.
His abilities are highly spammable, meaning they have short cooldowns and can be used frequently during combat. This allows him to deal sustained damage at a very high rate.
In damage testing, Ulquiorra performs extremely well and can output massive damage numbers compared to most existing weapons. Many players consider him one of the strongest options currently available.
Because of this, he is widely seen as the true “must-get” from the event.
Which One Should You Get First
If you’re new or returning, Kisuke should be your first priority simply because he’s easy to obtain and provides immediate usefulness.
However, if you have enough time to grind Hearts consistently, Ulquiorra should be your main long-term goal. His damage potential is far higher, and he has much stronger endgame value.
Ideally, most players will aim to obtain both since they use the same currency system.
Enchanting and Upgrading Tips
After obtaining either character, you can further improve their performance through enchantments and blessings.
These upgrades can significantly increase damage output and survivability, especially when applied to Ulquiorra, whose abilities scale very well with boosts.
If you plan to invest resources, it’s generally smarter to focus upgrades on Ulquiorra first due to his higher overall ceiling.
The Valentine event is relatively beginner-friendly because it relies on simple repeatable mini quests rather than difficult bosses or rare drops.
The best approach is to complete Heart missions regularly, buy event materials steadily, and unlock Kisuke first for immediate use. After that, focus all remaining resources toward getting Ulquiorra, since he offers much stronger combat performance.
Players who stay consistent with the quest refresh cycles can obtain both characters without heavy grinding.
