The latest Heroes Battlegrounds update brings a Halloween-themed boss to the game, and this one plays very differently from the old Nomu boss event. Instead of simply fighting a raid-style enemy, the update lets players transform into the Dullahan itself, complete with a full kit of abilities, unique movement, and an ultimate variant. Here’s everything you need to know about how the event works, how to trigger the boss, and how to unlock the Dullahan form for yourself.
How to Start the Dullahan Event
The entire process begins with the shack located on the map. When you enter the shack, you’ll find an NPC called Moonlight Ghost along with a new currency called Lunar Candies. This NPC sets up the theme of the event, but the transformation itself doesn’t come from talking to them.
Instead, you need to wait for the in-game announcement tied to the world cycle. When the message “The moon is rising” appears, that signals the start of a special night event. For this update, that night transforms into a Pumpkin Moon, and that’s when the Dullahan event becomes active.
During Pumpkin Moon, the map spawns four Dullahan armor pieces scattered throughout the area. These pieces appear as glowing items on the ground. The moment you collect all four, your character transforms into Vision the Pumpkin King, giving you full control of the boss form.
How to Become Dullahan
The process is straightforward, but the window is tight because multiple players may race for the pieces.
- Wait for the announcement that the moon is rising.
- Pick up all four scattered pieces during Pumpkin Moon.
- Once you grab the final piece, your character model instantly changes into the Dullahan form.
There’s no Robux requirement, no summoning cost, and no special server setup. It is entirely tied to collecting items during that brief event window. If you’re alone in a private server, this becomes much easier.
Dullahan’s Moveset Explained
Once transformed, you gain access to a full kit of abilities along with altered movement options. The boss form has side dashes, a unique front dash, and a longer M1 range than normal characters. Each basic hit does around 5 damage, but the reach makes it deceptively strong.
Below is a breakdown of each ability and how they behave.
Rise of Pumpkins
This move summons a group of pumpkin spirits around you, similar to the visual styling of Arise-style summons. They don’t actively strike enemies, so they function more like atmospheric pressure rather than DPS. The animation gives the character a strong thematic feel during combos.
Soul Harvest
A quick, slicing strike that seems partly inspired by Vergil-style slashes. It delivers clean damage and chains well off M1s, making it a direct tool for pressure. If the target is at 1 HP, this ability interacts properly with the finisher system.
Ghost Rider
This is the standout move. Activating it mounts the Dullahan onto a spectral horse, allowing you to move quickly while continuously attacking with your sword. At the end of the charge, you leap and slam down for a finishing strike. Damage output is extremely high during this move and allows long chases or rapid multi-target hits in public lobbies.
False Sun
This ability creates a pumpkin-flare explosion with multiple ticks of damage. Each tick hits for about 15 damage, making it far more effective in crowded fights or when punishing grouped enemies. The animation suggests a pumpkin-style burst, landing in a wide AOE.
Dullahan Ultimate Form
Using your ultimate triggers Moonlight, which recolors the entire moveset and enhances the visual energy of your attacks. The kit stays the same, but the effects become blue-toned and the moves tend to hit harder, giving the form a stronger presence.
Ghost Rider becomes even more destructive in this state, and the slash-based moves adopt a more aggressive aura. This mode is not a separate boss; it’s simply a visually and mechanically heightened version of Dullahan.
New Finisher: Inferno Impact
The update also adds a new finisher called Inferno Impact, available even outside the Dullahan form. It’s a fiery execution animation that appears after you drop a target to 1 HP. The shack hints at this mechanic by displaying the message “Collect all four pieces to become Dullahan”, connecting the finisher to the theme of the update.
Other Balance Changes
A small but notable tweak was made to Hell Assault, which now deals less damage than before. Aside from that, the update doesn’t introduce new character moves, and most of the content revolves around the Dullahan event itself.
This update is much lighter on traditional character additions, but the Dullahan boss form is a strong highlight. Being able to transform into the event boss, complete with a fully animated moveset and an ultimate mode, gives the game a fresh seasonal layer. The Ghost Rider-inspired move is easily the most powerful part of the kit, and the event itself offers a quick, replayable objective during Pumpkin Moon nights.
If the developers follow the same pattern for December, there’s a strong chance we’ll get a late Christmas update with another themed boss or event.
