If you’re new to the playtest, the starter village is large and easy to get turned around in. The important things you want to learn first are: where each breathing trainer (flame/wind/water) is, how to find the Final Selection area, and where the Demon Cave is to become a demon. Below I give simple, NEW MOON Beginner Guide Wiki and repeatable pathing for each plus short combat notes so you can immediately use what you find.
How to navigate the starter village (basic strategy)
When you spawn, take a moment and landmark where you are (carriages, leaf banners, green roofs, etc.). Exits look different from each other — use those visual cues.
If you get turned around, look for carriages, cliff ledges, bamboo/wisteria trees, or waterfalls — those are repeated landmarks outside the village that point to trainers and important areas.
Night time = demons spawn around exits. Travel with caution when the world is dark.
Flame Breathing trainer (Flame Hashira)
Leave the village through the exit with carriages and a forest theme
After exiting, take the first right. Look for a small cliff/ledge you can jump off — the trainer sits right near that ledge.
Tip: the spot is near a visible cluster of trees and a small village in the distance. If you see a ledge that looks like a cliff drop, you’re headed the right way.
Combat notes for Flame: move names include Blazing Universe, Blooming Flame, Tiger Flame, Rising Scorching Sun, Unknown Fire.
Rising Scorching Sun launches/knocks up — use it as an air-combo tool, not an opener.
Unknown Fire can posture-break (it has some posture break properties).
Several flame moves also apply burn, which chips posture and HP over time. Watch the enemy animation to confirm a posture break — there’s little audio feedback.
Wind Breathing Trainer
Exit the village and scale the nearby wall/ledge shown by the green-roofed buildings.
At the top, go left along the ledge and follow tree branches/bamboo.
The Wind trainer is tucked among bamboo/leafy branches — look for the cluster of green roofs and bamboo textures.
Combat notes for Wind: wind breath usually favors mobility/spacing and has moves that interact well with ledges and aerial follow-ups. Practice air spacing and using uptilts for combos.
Water Breathing Trainer
This one uses a different exit — not the carriage/forest exit. From spawn, take the exit that leads downwards (the one that takes you toward waterfall scenery).
Follow the path toward the visible waterfall and head in the direction of the wisteria trees.
The Water trainer is located behind a waterfall area — you’ll see the falls and a small pool; the trainer is right there.
Combat notes for Water: useful for combos and posture breaks. Notable moves:
Constant Flux — posture-break capable.
Riptide Crash — strong posture break; pairs well with a quick right-click for an extra follow-up that creates a slick combo extension.
Water Wheel — multi-hit with block-break potential.
Water Basin — less impressive in some interactions; can be situational.
A neat mechanical tip: hit Riptide Crash → immediate right-click for a flashy follow-up that sets up further combos.
Final Selection area (how to get there & what to expect)
From the village, choose the exit that has distinct rocks/barrels and follow the path toward a large cliff with ledges.
Walk left around the cliff and use the small ledges/steps — they guide you upward.
Keep walking toward the wisteria trees; the Final Selection ledge sits by them. You’ll see a ledge where players gather and a small UI prompt when the event is available.
Final Selection opens when players stand on the ledge — it gives about 60–70 seconds to gather before starting. You need other players (up to 15) to trigger it, so invite a group or wait for others.
Demon Cave (how to find it to become a demon)
From the village, take the exit with barrels and rock formations that look like a clear path into the wilderness.
Follow the rocks — they intentionally lead toward the cave entrance. The devs placed rocks as pathing hints, so just follow the flow of rocks.
Inside that area you’ll find the demon you interact with to become a demon (note: exact demon mechanics may vary; if interaction options are unclear, check in-game prompts or dev notes).
When I first tried the map it felt overwhelming, but once I learned two exits and one landmark (the waterfall + the wisteria trees), navigation became automatic. My advice: learn the waterfall exit and the carriage/forest exit first — most important trainers and events are near one of those. Spend a short training session practicing each breath’s block-break timing against a friend or bot; once you can reliably read posture breaks you’ll win far more fights than raw muscle memory alone will ever let you.
