The latest update in A Desrt (Untitled Trip 2.0) introduces two big features that change how players experience the game: the sandbox menu and the driving score system. Here’s a complete breakdown of what they do, how they work, and what you can expect moving forward.

Driving Score – Track Your Distance

A new driving score counter has been added near the Play button.

This score tracks how many kilometers you’ve driven in total.

Hovering your mouse over the leaderboard zooms in to show the top 10 players with the longest driving distances.

Importantly, your driving score only saves in normal mode. If you’re playing in sandbox mode, distances won’t be recorded since sandbox is considered a form of cheating.

For example, one test showed:

Driving 6 km in normal mode saved correctly on exit, matching the odometer.

Driving 2 km in sandbox mode did not save to the score.

How to Use Sandbox Mode

The new sandbox menu allows you to spawn items and vehicles directly, but it comes with limitations:

Activating Sandbox

    • Click Play → Create Lobby → Check Sandbox → Create and Play.
    • Open the menu with the B key or the sandbox button next to Settings.

Spawning Items

  • Gas Can: Spawns with a full liter of diesel.
  • Oil Can: Spawns with a liter of oil.
  • Big Can: Can spawn diesel or gas (randomly, up to 30 L).
  • Radiator: Automatically spawns with water.

Note: There’s currently no search box to quickly find items, making the menu clunky to navigate.

  1. Spawning Vehicles
    • Only one slot is available, which spawns a car.
    • Spawned cars appear incomplete—missing doors, hood, etc.
    • Bicycles cannot be spawned, though bicycle wheels are in the items menu.

Building an Overpowered Car

Players can experiment with creating powerful vehicles in sandbox mode. One example build:

  • Use an electric engine powered by a black or brown battery for longer capacity.
  • Attach two radiator fans to prevent overheating.
  • Add the seat and steering wheel to make the car drivable.

However, there are still bugs:

  • Some electric-engine cars automatically veer left.
  • Certain terrain makes vehicles difficult to control without modification.

Sandbox vs. Normal Mode

  • Sandbox Mode is for experimentation—spawning items, testing mechanics, and creating vehicles. But it does not save driving progress.
  • Normal Mode is where progression happens. Your driving score, leaderboard records, and long-term achievements only save when you play without sandbox enabled.

This update gives A Desrt (Untitled Trip 2.0) two very different playstyles.

Sandbox mode is perfect for testing builds and having fun without worrying about resources.

Normal mode rewards players who want to grind, compete on the leaderboard, and track their driving history.
